I'm not going to link to it, because that just encourages page views, which encourages more rumors. But, here's the fake rumor:

BREAKING NEWS!

The Bobcats are reportedly "very close" to signing NBA Legend and Bobcats owner Michael Jordan to a 10-Day-Contact "just to beat Miami's win-streak" tomorrow! Reporters say MJ could join the team if signed, tomorrow and was practicing with them tonight! Charlotte released pictures of MJ in preparation too!

Look out Miami! MJ IS BACK!

This comes from the Team USA Basketball facebook page, the one with the most likes. ITS NOT THE OFFICIAL TEAM USA PAGE.

You can go find if you want, but I wanted to give the heads up before it truly blew up. I know I was pretty annoyed when I tracked it back to its source and found it to be bogus.

Ha...too bad it's fake.

I would pay to see a 50 year old Jordan get humbled by Lebron. You know Lebron would stick it to him too.

As much as I hate the Heat, I wouldn't mind seeing the slightly egotistical Jordan get taken down a few notches.  That'd be fun to watch.

Amen to all that. Plus, vise versa.

Ha...but it's also the Internet so you know there were people actually taking this seriously.

It is moronic, I heard it third party, from a friend who pays close attention to stuff and usually gives me the good rumors before twitter does, so I took it seriously enough until I could verify it.

It didn't help that I read this yesterday:

Quote
HE'S TRYING TO change, taking small steps. For the past few years, he's gone on sailing trips because Yvette loves them, even though he hates the water. The first time, he went stir-crazy on the boat. This most recent trip, he felt his rage dissolve. It was a victory. He didn't watch basketball. Every morning he'd wake with the sun and plant himself in the fishing chair, popping his first Corona by 8 with his friends, reeling in big yellowfin tuna, which hit a trolling bait like a submarine. They make great sushi. Jordan was happy. "Drinking and eating and drinking and eating and drinking and eating" is how he described the vacation to a friend, going through cases of his favorite tequila, fully unplugged, which lasted until he flew home. Then he was around the game again, and the old urges began to eat at him.

In Charlotte, he starts thinking about 218.

Every morning since returning from the islands, he's been in the gym. At mealtime he texts his nutritionist to find out what he can and can't eat. Ostensibly, the reason is that he stepped on a scale after leaving the excess palace of Mister Terrible and saw this number staring back: 261. Nine days later, sitting in his office and surrounded by basketball, he's down to 248. He'll claim it's about health, or looking good for his 50th birthday party. But in his mind, there's a target: 218, a familiar and dangerous number in Jordan's world.

That's his playing weight.

When he mentions that Yvette never saw him play basketball, he says, "She never saw me at 218." On the wall of his office there's a framed photograph of him as a young man, rising toward the rim, legs pulled up near his chest, seeming to fly. He smiles at it wistfully.

"I was 218," he says.

Haha!

Yeah, like I'm gonna believe Jordan is willing to sell his share of the team in order to play a few games to prove some unnecessary point.
