The Boston Celtics have signed D.J. White to a multi-year contract.

White, a 6’9” forward, has appeared in four games for the Celtics since he was signed to his original 10-day contract on February 28. In those four games, White has averaged 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.8 minutes per game. He recorded a high of six points against Charlotte on March 16 and recorded four rebounds also against Charlotte on March 12.

Interesting. Wonder what the terms are.

Were terms of Terrence Williams' contract ever released? I don't recall what they were.

Wow, I was not expecting this. I'm also not sure how I feel about it. He is a good substitute at this point of the season, but we could probably get more value in the offseason.

I'm worried that by signing him and T-Will we may lose some flexibility for next year.

danny wasnt lying when he said he was scouting for the future as well as for this season. This is very interesting indeed, He was the last guy I expected to get a multi-year deal.

I did not expect a multi-year contact but he seems like he could be a tremendous fit for this team. He hustles, plays defense, and seems to be trying when (albeit barely) given a chance.

He was regulated to a poor team, poor city, and poor system before.

He has all the right tools (some gifts from his mother such as height) to be a great bench player.  If it was a small contract, very smart move by Ainge.

My guess is that these "multi-year" deals are entirely about flexibility for next year.  I would bet that they're both fully non-guaranteed in their second year.

What that does is give the Celtics decent salary fodder to include in trades to make numbers work.  The Celtics can package Williams + White to another team, and the team can immediately cut them, not owing any money.

Oh, okay. I'm good with that.

I like DJ, and Shav. As long as signing them doesn't hurt our flexibility I'm happy to keep them around.

This is similar to how the Cs signed Sean Williams to a multi-year contract around this time last year. Not a big deal.
Celtics fan for life.

These deals are terrific.  The best thing about these 10-day contracts are they allow you to scout depth players for the following season.  Signing them brings minimal financial risk.

Danny buys very low with the potential of medium-high reward.

It's like signing your 2nd round pick to a non-guaranteed deal and then seeing if he works out.  If he does, great.  If not, you cut him before his contract is guaranteed.

None of these 10-day players are ever going to become stars, but they give Danny and Doc flexibility moving forward.  White and T-Will will continue to learn the Celtics system and will spend the off-season with the coaches and trainers.  If they show promise, and Danny can't find anyone better elsewhere during free agency, he keeps these guys around for camp and bench depth.  If they don't show any promise, he can cut them.

Danny is playing the game the right way.
