Danny Ainge: 'Unfair' to expect Jeff Green to be next Paul Pierce - See more at: http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/extras/celtics_blog/2013/03/danny_ainge_unf.html?camp=rss:celtics&dlvrit=834394#sthash.Bn1LripW.dpuf

I would agree, but does anyone think he can't become at least an equivalent to Antoine Walker?

He isn't paid like he will be the next Paul Pierce, but he certainly needs to live up to that contract.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I dont think we will see another Paul Pierce for a really long time if ever, especially in Green. Pierce is a very unique player that had an incredibly underrated career in my eyes.

Green is like a Danny Granger , borderline all-star playe . He may make a few before his career is over , but PP is a first ballot HOF player.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If Green can even touch Antoine Walker's career level of pts, rebs, and assists, along with his leadership ability, Celtics fans should be very happy. People forget that Pierce had some very immature moments before KG and Allen came into town and Antoine was the voice in the locker room during their overachieving years in the early 2000s.

Ian Thompsen (SI) compared him to a prime Lamar Odom. I think that's a good comparison. Similar type players, same size, and can do a variety of things pretty well. Green is a better shooter and finisher around the basket, while Odom is the better rebounder and ballhandler.

I agree, except that Green is also a better slasher to the basket as well.

Danny Ainge was spot on in this interview.

To me most of it was common sense though that people have trouble grasping.

Like Maz talking about it being frustrating watching Green go from the OKC game to the Miami game. Danny Ainge: "That's sports"

Not compared to 26 year old Lamar Odom.

Just so long as Green doesn't touch his terrible defense, work ethic, and shot selection.

Yeah he does. He clearly is talented enough to do so.

Prime Lamar Odom is a much better player than Green has ever been.

To quote myself from another thread, I am still amazed how Jeff Green scores so many points driving to the hoop. The guy has one driving move: isolate on the right elbow, go for a one-dribble drive to the right.

Well, it helps that he's doing it against slower PFs who wouldn't be able to contain him if he both loudly shouted and pointed that he was going to drive right.  Also, that it comes in early transition.  Green is not so dynamic against SFs who move their feet much better laterally, but against PFs, he is outstanding.  This is why Green needs to play a lot of PF next to Pierce and why Bass should find his minutes greatly reduced.

No reason in the World why Green can't be better than Pierce.
