Well, it's a small sample (less than a full NBA season in terms of career games total), but shooting was a known issue before he hopped over the big lake. Luckily for him, shooting is something that may improve over one's career, but in this particular case something to watch out for. Haven't seen enough of him to know whether it's poor shot selection, poor jump shot, and/or inability to get to the basket/finish in traffic.

The last two, mainly.  Just not very good at putting the ball in the basket.  Poor shooter and an awful finisher around the rim.  He seems to take good shots for the most part and he can get in the paint, but he's not an athletic freak who can score amongst the trees and he hasn't mastered any of the tricky little shots that PGs like CP3, Parker and Rondo use to get shotblockers off-balance.

Shot selection is fine. Weak jump-shot + inability to finish at the basket is killing him.

Lack of explosive athleticism will always limit Rubio's ability to finish around the basket but there is no reason why he cannot improve to say Jose Calderon's level at the basket. Plus, since he gets into the paint far more often than Calderon does and shares similar limitations finishing at the rim (lowering his number of attempts), Rubio will need to develop a better floater / teardrop shot.

I think the jump-shot is more of a long term issue. First focus should be on learning how to finish in traffic both in the paint and at the rim.

Very nice game, but the asterisk is that the Spurs rested their starters again for this one. No Duncan, Parker, or Leonard and only one half from Manu.

That description does kind of fit him.  Rondo is capable of finishing around the rim, to the point where you wish he'd look to score more when he's in the paint.  Aside from that, though... yeah, they do a lot of the same things.

I see the 'Poor-man's Rondo' comparisons - Rubio has a great feel for the game like Rondo and always seems to be a step ahead of everybody with his passing and nose for the ball. Unfortunately for him, he isn't nearly the athlete Rondo is. This is the kind of game that shows his potential, though, and I am not surprised one bit to see that he is succeeding. I enjoy watching him play.

Rubio struggled for a month or so after coming back from injury but he looks like he is back to his best now. Since February (19 games), Rubio is putting up 13 points per game + 9.2 assists per game + 5.4 rebounds per game + 2.8 steals per game. Shooting percentages (38%) and scoring efficiency (48.6% TS%) are up a fair bit since his bad start to the season but are still very poor overall.
