If it came down to it, should we draft a complete non pf/c or a good pf/c

Say we will end up with the 20th pick and your two next big picks is either Glen Robinson 3 or Jeff Withey, who would you rather pick??

Say we get to picking 17th and your two next big picks are Olynyk or Trey Burke who would you pick??

I thought the celts would be dead without KG the most. But seeing tonight against the lowly Bobcats , without Pierce we are just as doomed. So when the 2013 draft comes and we pick somewhere between 17-22, should we try to fill the immediate need of a decent pf/c (to prepare for the loss of kg) or actually just get the best player avail because the celtics are not as talented with two aging superstars?

From my example above. First with the 20th pick situation, you have one Jeff Withey who at worse will give you honest defense, shot blocking, rebounding , garbage baskets plus is ready now or Glen Robinson 3 who still has heaps of potential not seen but not ready for the nba yet??

Same with the Olynyk vs Burke example. Burke is considered one of the better two way passing pg's , but may clog the guard position, even though it never hurts having two capable pg's (if Rondo is back next year). Or do we replace KG upfront at least with more offensive capable Olynyk though we might be hurting on the defensive end?

Just want to see what people would do as we near the end of the kg/pp era in a year or two

I think you pick the best available player unless it is a PG since we already have a bunch of those. However, if a wing prospect is only slightly better than a big man prospect I think you have to draft the big.

Agreed, I wouldn't take Glen Robinson III or Poythress over Olynyk but I just might have to consider it over Withy considering we have a shot blocking center who May need minutes next year.

Olynyk however, offers a unique skill set that no one else on the team can replicate.

It looks like we missed on Fab, but every position will be filled up come next year provided everyone stays. We have depth on every level except a Center. WE DONT HAVE A CENTER.

Whether it's a defensive minded like Jeff WHitey or an low post scoring threat like Kelly Olynyk, it doesnt matter, we need to draft big.

In a rebuild you build with best available assets you can get and don't worry about your record assuming we go into rebuild mode, we won't be worried about our record.   We might now go that route, only DA, KG and PP know.   If we keep the same team then we might only add a piece to the core.

And this is a good point. Olynyk could easily play 20 min in the nba, chuck up 5 more fg's (miss them) , still shoot at a high shooting fg percentage and score like 12-15 pts a game. But the problem he will face in a celtics uniform is, how much of a liability on the defensive end will he be to even get 5 min on the court. I have yet really seen in the past 3 or 4 years, Doc put a guy out on the court that is a liability on defense.

With Trey Burke, due to Rondo needing more down time or rest or 2nd unit has alot of problems getting set, will eventually get min to contribute for the team. He is also a capable defender.

For some reason i think Doc will really like Withey for his defensive capability, shot blocking skills, rebounding and ability to make the jump shot. Plus has very good bbiq.

The thing with Olynyk , though he may not be great defensively is, his team has only lost 2 games and i don't think he has got burnt by anyone he has been guarding yet. But i don't know, Doc is greedy for players that can play excellent 1 on 1 D plus team D, meaning weakside help, able to rotate on the pick and rolls well or ability to hedge etc.  So would Olynyks exceptional offensive capabilities more than make up for his defensive shortcomings?

Danny will always take BPA if he keeps the pick.  the only question has been who is really the BPA at that point.

hopefully it's a decent player that can crack the rotation in a year (not expecting a Sully-like breakthrough from this draft).

This year, with all the players we already have signed for a couple more years, I think the chances are pretty good that Danny trades the pick and some players for a better PF/C to back up KG and Sully up front or possibly move this year's pick to get another pick for next year's deeper/better draft class

No one in this draft is a "complete" player. Everyone has flaws and problems.

My guess is he takes BPA unless that BPA is a guard in which case he will trade out of the spot.

Danny will end up drafting a guard, this draft is deep with guards, whereas all the bigs are garbage.
