Rick Bucher says if the lakers can't trade Gasol this summer, they may amnesty him to get under the luxury tax.

Any chance that we can make a run at Gasol if he's available for cheap in a trade? The lakers want to shed salary, so I'm not sure what we could offer.

Let him get amnesty and then sign him on the cheap to play next to KG.

I'm worried that if he gets amnestied he signs with the Heat and we are all screwed.

I rather that that that huge contract that is going to cost the Celtics Pierce or Rondo.

When Rondo went down with the ACL injury, I firmly believed that the Cs title runs were over. Next season, a year older PP & KG, plus a 70-80% Rondo is not a real contender.

HOWEVER, if the Cs could somehow add an amnesties Pau Gasol to that team then all bets are off. That team could contend. This is especially true given the veteran depth on the roster.

I am officially intrigued.

Yep -- that scares me too (Miami). Or to Chicago to play with Derrick Rose. They have been interested in Pau Gasol for a few years and offer a very attractive situation too.

Or even San Antonio to play with Duncan and Parker. Pau Gasol would be an excellent fit there. Tiago Splitter off the bench. A three tower big man rotation.

I don't think Boston will be a first choice destination. Too old (Pierce + KG). The Celts would need one heck of a playoff run to gatecrash that group of teams.

Don't all the teams under the cap have first crack at him?  He could refuse to report but I have a hard time believing no one would claim him.

Pau Gasol will get bid upon for certain. His deal would only have a single year so it'd be a super cheap rental for a team with cap space of a very capable player.

Houston would bid on him, Dallas probably too. Other than those two I'm sure there are other team's with cap space that would be attracted to landing Gasol.

If Howard + gasol is too slow for today's NBA (clearly proven this year), then Garnett + gasol would be waaaaaaay too slow. Count me out.

Teams will bid on him anyway.

I don't see how in the world a 2 time NBA champion gets amnestied. Somebody will give up something for a skilled 7 footer who is still very productive when healthy.

I think Bucher is just pulling our leg here. No way this happens

Because the Lakers needs a team with cap room that can absorb most of the contract (if not all of it)

That the only way they can get the monster cap tax hit down.

And if they make the playoffs without him, all more reason to amnesty him  if they have the luxury to do so. Plus, it seems like Gasol isnt to happy with the Lakers and Visa versa.

If it does happen, there would be a number of teams knocking on his dorr right away. I could see Houston as a great destination for him. The Spurs as well if he made it through the bidding process. Love to have the Celtics look at him but no way he makes it passed a team like Houston.

so, they'll still take the cap hit even if they amnesty him?  I thought that was the point of the amnesty option.  just looking for some clarity on the rule
