What an utterly selfish move by the Hawks waiving him at this point after the deadline.  I bet that will NOT play well with his agent and could have ramifications down the road IF his agent represents more meaningful players.

They wanted to clear a roster spot to sign a PG and just got Shelvin Mack on a ten-day contract.

Playoff eligible or not I give this kid the same type of contract as Williams. Another young talent added to the roster with out giving anything up. Worst case he gets cut in camp. In terms of playoff eligibility, the the cs need to go to the last guy on the bench to win then  I'm not to hopefull of the out come

I don't think Jeremy Tyler is someone who playoff teams would be looking at anyways.

Jeremy Tyler was a heavily sought after high school player.  He is young and unproven at this level.
However, his talent is something to be considered.  Certainly, he is worth a ten day contract. Love to see the Celtics do this.  Get Em!!

Patrick O'Bryant part 2. He was terrible overseas and he's been awful here. I'm not saying he won't get it but he's a bigger project than Fab Melo at this stage.  If we had the space and luxury to stash him and work with him then maybe but fans are already calling for Fabs head an it wasn't even half a season.

If the Celtics release Shavlick, the Celtics should pick up Tyler and here is why:

Dumping Shav seems premature, but people seem to be calling for it already. We all know he is just here to eat up minutes and provide fouls come playoff time and I doubt we will need more than the 6 DJ White has to give.

So I say take a flyer on this kid. Its a little worrying that no team has made an offer since he got released, but Celtics don't have much in the way of cap space to attract much talent this offseason and at best a middle round pick in a relatively weak draft class. Why not take a kid with upside and baggage?

I know we say this about any troubled big, but maybe KG can set him straight and he could be decent rotation guy off the bench. He has double double talent, but just hasn't been able to put it together.

He can still get minutes during the regular season and give rest opportunities for KG and no he isn't available for the playoffs, but there is little to no chance of White or Randolph getting any minutes in Doc's rotation anyway.

I'll never count this team out, but the odds of winning it all are miniscule, and if White or Shavlick have any impact on a playoff game I'll eat my hat. Let's get a kid with first round talent on the cheap and maybe get lucky.

I'm for releasing Shavlick and grabbing Tyler.

At worst, he is equivalent to a mid to late 2nd round pick....for free.

But honestly,who's surprised?
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

You can set both Fab Melo and Jeremy Tyler's pics as your profile picture if we do sign him.

Bring back big man coach Clifford Ray to mold Jeremy Tyler into Kendrick Perkins 2.0! What ever happened to Cliff?

In all seriousness, if you had the chance to bring in Greg Oden or Jeremy Tyler this summer (both being question marks with upside), what would you do?

They'll both help the celtics the exact same amount. Zero.

I understand that this is the D-league, but check out Jeremy Tyler's stats in the D-League playoffs.

The kid is dominating, and would surely be a contributor for us. His post play is already solid and still has room to grow. Naturally athletic and has grown up a lot since that famous bypassing senior year to go pro scenario he was in. Him and Sully would be a great PF duo.

Yeah I'd love to bring him in to at least the summer league.  I think he has as much if not more of a chance of doing something than Fab Melo does.

Ideally I would love Greg Oden though.  He is the guy I want Boston to sign.  I think he could be a real difference maker.

Was.

He's very skilled and still too young.
