Jeremy Tyler waived by the Hawks

Hawks just released young big man Jeremy Tyler... He's only 21 years old and is close to being Perk's size. I know he's not proven but he's played 9 D'League games the last 2 years and averaged 15 pts 8 reb a game. I know we have a project in Fab Melo already but JT could fit in with our youth movement. He's 8 years younger than our 15th roster spot in Shavlik Randolph on a 10 day right now. I posted that we should have signed Andray Blatche in the offseason, and he's turned out nice in spurts. This is my 2nd post ever, and I'm on the site every day. Just interested to see if anyone has any thoughts on Jeremy Tyler?

So is this guy just a mess or what?  I haven't heard about his character really but he's just all over the place at this point.

Great body but has not shown he can play in the NBA.  Blatche had proven he could play in the NBA but would've been too much of a risk in the locker room.  We have no use for this guy.  Shavlik has proven he can play in the NBA.  I would rather have Shavlik in a pinch to play a few minutes than Tyler by a long shot.

Big man with no heart..played in Israel, Japan, Golden State, Atlanta, and made some stops in D-Leagues...has the talent but wont use them..pass

Has shown little to no development from what I have seen of him since he entered the league. He is still a multi-year project. Still far away from being a quality contributor.

Not really interested in him at this point.

I think he will float around for awhile now. I say watch from a distance and see if he starts showing signs of progress / development. If he does, revisit the idea of signing him. If not, leave him be.

We’re not playing our third-string bigs anyways (see White, DJ).Therefore, I would prefer to use that roster spot on a kid who by all accounts, has a world of talent, then on a NBA cast-off like Shavlik Randolph.

As a Bay Are guy I've seen a lot of his play during the lockout season when the Dubs are tanking.

If not for Carl Landry coming in, I kid you guys not, he will be backing up David Lee.

This kid has gone a long way, from being the kid who skipped Senior year of HS to play pro. To being dubbed as immature (of course he's 17-19 years old), got back on track and it's unfortunate that he has to have no team in the NBA.

But going back, the guy is the perfect project. He's still has ways to go to learn the game, but he's got enough skill to contribute right away. Has AMAZING footwork and is athletic. His post game better than most Center's in the league right now. His midrange game is decent, with a very good shooting form. He's active on defense, challenging shots, boxing out running, the little things. Only knock on him is he sometimes tend to shoot mid range too much.

Disappointingly, the Warriors did not see that, and so are the Hawks, but this kid can be a very good back up, if not a decent starter. He's 21, he's got a lot of room to grow, and with the right people around him. And I believe we have the right people in the mix, which is why I'm begging the basketball Gods to please bring this kid to us...

He will be a solid contributor for us if we will give him an opportunity to learn. I've seen it, I've seen it a lot. He's skilled enough and still a ton of potential.

Get this kid, Danny Ainge, please.

When did Shavlik show he can play in the NBA? I don't think he has had any success in the league so far. Great in China, but thats a whole different ballgame.

I'd rather take a flyer on this guy than keep White (I think Shavlik probably has more upside and is a better fit for what we need in terms of size). His talent is undeniable, but he hasn't been able to put it together. Give him some time with the vets and maybe he can contribute.

That being said I don't know if you want to bring in a head strong kid with questionable character having just picked up Crawford (and Twill for that matter). Its not that I don't think the vets on this team could keep them in line, but it might be a case of not needing another project. Especially since Doc isn't going to play this kid unless he has to.

But then again, I am always a sucker for cheap talent/resurrection projects.

Completely forgot about the March 1st waiver deadline. Still wouldn't be surprised if a non-playoff team jumped on this kid and took a look for the rest of the season. Talent is hard to come by that cheap these days.

I would throw him in the dleague for us if it didnt waste a roster spot. Otherwise I dont have much use for him if he has bounced around so much and doesnt have the heart to put his talents to use.

Waste of roster spot? So, he's not playoff eligible. Big deal. Are you expecting the 12th man off the bench to get minutes in the playoffs?. If the 12th man on the bench (Randolph) can’t get minutes against Philadelphia, why would he get minutes in the playoffs.

I agree. If we are relying on Randolph to do anything at all in the playoffs, then we already lost. Use the roster spot on a young player with talent for next year.
