  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
An amazing Olynyk stat- his true shooting percentage tops the NCAA at .710. That's really something for a player who is getting 18 points per game and not shooting 3's.

He's having a historically efficient season for a college player.

He's a big part of that soon to be #1 seed Gonzaga team. But he is playing in WCC.

I like him, I think we should get him, don't get me wrong. But as efficient as he is right now, I'd really like to see what he can do in the Tournament.

But as of right now, I want the Celtics to pick him. His rebounding woes would be covered by KG, and we will have an inside game.

Olynyk has terrible footwork.  he'll get called for a travel every game and will get blocked like crazy.  Wouldnt mind developing Mouhammadou Jaiteh alongside melo to sure up future center spots or a cory Jefferson from baylor for that matter.

agreed. He will need to dominate some nba-bound competition. Until he does he's got more in common with Ryan Wittman and Luke Harangody than he does with Alex Len.

Speaking of Harangody- still averaging something like 20-12 in the D League, shooting the three, getting to the line. I can't believe no one has a job for him.

How come Olnyk is playing only 25mpg if he is scoring 18ppg on 71% TS%?

Is he a god-awful defender or something?

Come on. There's no such thing as traveling any more. If anything, they call it more in college.

Mouhammadou Jaiteh?? Had to google that. An 18-year old playing in the 2nd-tier French league. Um, ok, but we're talking about pick 17... this year...

He's not one of the good defenders when it comes to big men available. He's not good in pick and roll defense.

He also turns the ball over an awful lot, which is something he needs to improve.

That's probably why.

Olnyk looks fairly limited athletically in those video clips on draftexpress. No explosiveness. Not with his quickness or his leaping ability. A lot of below the rim the plays.

You gotta wonder whether he can create separation from his defender at an NBA level + whether he can finish those types of shots against quality defender/athletes.

Looks like a mid to late 2nd round pick to me (solely based on those videos).

I think Gorgui Dieng would compliment Sullinger very well.  He'll never be an offensive stud by any means, but his defense will be a major game changer in the NBA.  He has a chance to be a 10 rebound/2 block a game guy.  He's very good in the pick and roll and has the athleticism to run the floor with Rondo.
do it

I watched KG and pierce get called for travels this year.  Do you think a rookie is gonna get away with it?  Say he does, there's no way he's gettin to the rim in the post, he's too uncoordinated.  Jaiteh would be avilable this year and would be a good development project with Melo until KG retires.  Now if we pick up Olynyk then fine, but he's gonna have to work on the footwork to adapt to the nba.  Not the worst pick I suppose at 17.  He does seem to have a big build which could help.

Agree.  I live in Louisville, and Dieng is a pleasure to watch on the defensive end.

We don't have a second round pick this year, unless Danny gets one at the draft.

I've also seen us linked to Willie Cauley Stein. He'd be interesting, better athlete than Fab and even Kentucky role players have been finding success in the NBA like Patrick Patterson and Eric Bledsoe.

He can jump,  block shots, shoot at a high percentage and maybe even run the floor. He might just stay to win a title next year with the Harrisons though.

My dark horse pick would be Alex Poythress. I think we'll draft by best player available as opposed to someone like Olynyk. With his athleticism he's more of a sure thing at the next level which would make him a good trade chip like Moe Harkless was for Philly.
