The reason why Collins will be gone is because the Sixers handed him a terrible situation: the two pillars of their franchise, Iguodala and Brand (sorry, Jrue, you're not there yet) were traded away for a guy who didn't play a single game. That's going to lead to at least a couple of problems.

While this is true, Collins isn't blameless here. Zach Lowe wrote a nice piece to this effect about 6 weeks ago:

Cliff notes version (from the article itself):

Quote
1. Collins played a large role in putting this roster together.

2. He has coached it with an offensive philosophy that quite clearly doesn’t work.

Brand was amnestied to avoid paying luxury tax.

It's a shame his job would be in question because of their GM's mistake. Firing Doug Collins would be huge loss to that team. He's done a great job there.

If they do fire him, I hope he makes his way to beantown.

Seems like EVERY legit NBA writer knows that Collins was the real GM of Philly, and they just hired their "GM" to be a guy to sign off on COllin's moves, which were to essentially ship out members of his arbitrary old-school "doghouse" who ended up being good. They had to go waaaay deep into the GM pool because almost no one wanted to take the job as a simple "yes man."

In other words, he made his bed and has refused to adapt to the current league.

If he gets "fired", it'll be mutual.

It's a shame. With Bynum, they really could have been a force, especially with the way Jrue had been playing. I think they needed a few more role players though.

Looks like he'll be stepping down instead.

It's a shame because Philly probably won't get a better coach.

IMHO...Collins is the game's best analyst.  Hope if he doesn't land another job that he's back in the booth.
