I don't understand the direction San Antonio took. Why draft a "win now" team so early, only to blow it up?
Well, I was in a win-now mode, until I was looking through my spreadsheet of BPA available (I picked 26th every round) and I realized, "Wow, Parker + Duncan + crap does not = championship."
It was a very tough decision, but in the end I decided that I liked Wall's and Bradley's defensive potential. I have two mid-to-late first rounders, so I should be able to pick up two young starting-caliber guys, and then I pick in the fifth round all the way to the thirteenth, just finding guys to fill out the roster.
I actually had a trade in place to acquire a better PG on a cheaper salary where it was Tony for that PG plus picks being exchanged. In the end, I declined because the picks I had weren't great, which would leave me with this:
PG better than Wall
Bradley
1 mid first, no second, no third, no fourth, then 26th the rest of the way
To me, that screams 14th in the lottery every year.
I didn't want that, so I decided to do a full-blown rebuild.
