Gortat and Pietrus

We just don't have the intensity on defense right now and that has been our hallmark. Pietrus was a great fit last year and I'm not sure why he wasn't a priority. I think Danny might have had a "grass is always greener" challenge this off season and as a result he may have overlooked a guy like Pietrus. He knocks down threes, plays tough perimeter defense, and fit right in with the Celtics vibe. I'm not sure if he would play for the vet  min at this point, but I would put the fullcourt press on him.

Signing Pietrus then frees up the trading of Green who I realize has dicey value right now but still could be interesting for some clubs who would start him. How about Green, Sullinger, Lee, and Melo for Gortat and Beasley.

Not sure what the combo is to get Gortat here, but adding Gortat and Pietrus would solve a lot of the current problems with the team.

That would be great but I don't think the Suns would trade their best play in Gortat for our garbage and sullinger. Michael Beasley may not have lived up to the hype but still has more potential than either Green or Lee to become effective.

Mitch Kupchak does it all the time. Surely Ainge can turn young assets minus Bradley and Bass into Gortat and Beasley. A combination of Melo, Sully, Lee, Joseph, Green, and picks.

Lee and Green are not garbage. Green needs to start to be effective IMO. bench players need to be high energy and it is just not his game and Lee i think with time will find his role on this team but it's just taking too long. In a Suns system he would fit much better. I'd hate to lose Sullinger or AB but of the two AB can help this team more immediately. If the Suns want AB instead of Sullinger it would be tough but I still think I'd go with Gortat...

that said, Pietrus is very important. we are missing his perimeter defense in a BIG way.

I'm still holding some hope for COurtney Lee but I'm missing Air France more and more.

ANd Gortat, i mean Green, Sully, or Bradley, whatever it takes, get him please.

Pietrus could shoot 10% from deep and his defense would still change every game he plays in. There were times last year where I thought he should be starting for Ray... He was huge in the Playoffs even when it was clear that he couldn't hit anything.

I think we'll probably make a trade eventually, but we can't do anything until Jan 15th (although some of our guys can be traded on Dec 15th).  That's why I don't really worry to much about these early season losses.  They are inevitable and expected.  We'll see how we look when Bradley comes back and the team makes some moves.

Bringing in Pietrus to guard Lebron? I mean Pietrus did an admiral job guarding Lebron for his size but he's a 2 guard and is there to guard Wade and Kobe types, not Lebron and Carmelo types.

Second biggest revelation last year behind Avery Bradley was  that Brandon Bass is weapon against Lebron. He more than held his own matched up against Lebron on Defense. Bass at the end of the day is undersized Power Forward. Both players are chiseled 6'9 athletic freaks.

We'd love to think that Bass can guard Lebron, but the truth is that we aren't sticking Bass on Lebron unless we HAVE to. ie: when Pierce got in foul trouble in the ECF last year and we had to let Bass guard him. Miami went after Bass immediately by putting Bosh on the wing, and getting the ball to Lebron at the top of three point line. Lebron ABUSED Bass driving to the basket and kicking to Chris Bosh or whoever the wide open shooter was when KG came over to cover for Bass.
Bass is a half decent interior defender and if Lebron tries to post up then the match up becomes fair. Unfortunately Bass has got no answer for Lebron's speed off the dribble and this is why they attacked him repeatedly.
Do you really think we have a chance against Miami if our two guys guarding the best player in the world are an old Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass? Really?

We tried it last playoffs and they just destroyed us. Jeff Green wasn't brought in just to score 12-15 ppg off the bench, he was brought in because Danny felt his athleticism was a huge advantage in being able to contain Lebron on the perimeter, particularly now that Wade and Lebron have cut down on their own three point attempts and started to attack the rim even more.

I don't understand where all this talk comes from about Bass being so effective against Lebron defensively.

Maybe we were watching a different 2012 ECF series (I'm pretty sure there was only one!) but what I was was Bass getting destroyed and abused at will every time Lebron challenged him.

Bass is relatively athletic for a PF, but against Lebron he looked like he was a concrete statue bolted into the ground - he couldn't even come close to keeping up with him.  Pietrus and Marquis both did a better job from what I saw.

People have been saying ever since that series that Bass was really effective against Lebron, but I seriously didn't see it...at all.

Well Beasley would do as good a job as Green, plus Pietrus would get minutes on him as well, especially if we are able to keep AB in a trade for Gortat. AB would get Wade and Pietrus would get Lebron...

If we don't get Beasley, then we could pick kmart and throw him a Lebron for a few minutes. honestly, we'd be much better equipped to handle Lebron with Pietrus and kmart than we are right now and with Gortat we'd have another big able to guard the rim...

Pietrus and Gortat really make a lot of sense to me...the question is whether we would have to give up AB to get him.

Yup as some else mentioned about all we can do is  HOLD OUR NOSES  ( the celtics stink)  , grin & bare the loses that are forthcomming .  FOr better or worse...things will change in JAN , with AB back and Danny making trades.

Just gonna get used to losing.

Pietrus is going to be off the market very soon IMO, and our perimeter defense is so poor, MP is a no-brainer.

We have more problems than Pietrus can solve certainly, but he would be an instant upgrade on the defensive end.

I just see no reason to let him slip past us...If for no other reason than making Green someone we can seriously think about including in trade scenarios.
