In the pre-season, I thought Bass was more aggressive on the boards. To my surprise it didn't show up on the box score.

Then last night he was a rebounding monster. 11 in 28 minutes.

Is it just me or did Bass improve noticeably on rebounding? Or was it just because of the lack of size from the Heat?

I can live without passing but to me as a power forward Bass needs to average 7 or more rebounds.  No reason he can't, last year his rebounding was not good.
game 1 so hopefully he continues at that pace but its only game 1, kg off, green off, we need to give everyone some time

Keep in mind he rebounding against a small ball Miami team.  Lets see how he does against more traditional lineups.

1 game is def inconclusive. I would be shocked if he ended up rebounding double digits this season.

I don't think his rebounding was accidental , I think he is making a extra effort to improve on this part of his game.  He has a big frame , if he can get postion and prove to Doc he can really get to the ball and not hurt on "GET BACK" D.

It appeared he was closer to the paint longer in the preseason as well.

I suspect Sully 's game of rebounding may have embrassed him in practice and made him step up.

Good to see his new vigor.  Green is standing there WATCHING the ball come of the rim...James and Sully are already moving to the ball .

James seems to be able to LEAP across court or over anybody anytime to get about any rebound he wants . James is just flat out quicker and can jump higher than anybody else his size. He grabs the ball TWO feet above  anybody else reaching for the ball.  I say foul him and block him out keep the ball out of his hands .

One game doesn't tell you enough, especially against a team like Miami where they don't play like most other NBA teams.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

My thoughts exactly.

Bass knows if he was to lose his job this is where or why he'd lose it.

Hopefully this is play he can keep up.

Bass averaged 3.8 rebounds in 20.6 minutes a game in 5 preseason contests. That seems about par for his career. Roughly one rebound every five minutes.

I'm guessing (or expecting) Bass' board work the other night to be just a good game.

From what I remember, about half of his rebounds came when he and Green were the biggest guys on the floor for the Celtics, so he was sort of the center by default, and therefore playing closer to the basket on defense. A quick scan of the play-by-play confirms it.  I count 5 rebounds during the time   he and Green were on the floor together.  And 2-3 more on the offensive glass from rebounding his own misses.
Good food, like good music and good love, always requires a little sweat in the making in order for it to be truly memorable.

Bass is capable of having double digit rebounding games, last year his problem was consistently going after the rock.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I noticed that too - I think Doc was motivating him with the Sullinger threat...

I mean sure in game one it did, but one game with 11 rebounds is an incredibly small sample size. This is like saying did Rondo's assists improve because he had 13 in game one and only averaged 11 last year?

One thing about Bass is I dont understand why he is not in Doc's end of game rotation especially when he plays so well for the first three quarters... Is his defense really that bad or what am I missing? Kid is clutch with the pick and pop from the free throw line extended, I mean he never misses. And in a game where he was scoring when needed and hitting the glass when needed, and only gets 28 minutes? I dont understand Doc logic on that one.

Don't know whether his rebounding improved, but we definitely seem to have some interest going after offensive rebounds now.
