Definitely am lamenting the "D", specifically our PnR D.

Our offense really has me exicited though.  Finally, layups and free throws.  Our offense, while still taking a good number of jumpshots, the number of easy baskets was nice.

I suspect our patented scoring droughts will be much fewer and far bewtween this season.

I want to like our offense, but we have played only one game, and that game was played at a fast pace. And we lost.

I will only be impressed with the offense when it doesn't come at the expense of the defense. If bringing in more dynamic offensive players has left us unable to play defense, it is fool's gold.

I will wait for 10 games or so before forming an opinion. Anything can happen in a single game.

Agree about the D.  Can't win squat when it matters without D.

Just happy to see numerous easy baskets.  The best part is, if the D improves our offense will too.  More stops equals more fastbreak opportunities.

I was pretty excited by Jason Terry in that first half. It was so nice to see someone else being able to create his own offense off the dribble. And that pull-up jump-shot of his is lethal.

The rest seemed fairly similar as it was before.

Although, Green was anonymous so that should change once he gets himself off the mark. He should be pretty good weapon as a post up three and/or quick four.

After having the night to think about it, I think I see why Doc called the offense "fool's gold".

Their aggressive defense got to us and we botched at least a handful of possessions if I remember correctly. I think crisper execution might have helped in those possessions (not having delved into organized basketball I might be wrong) and even the offense overall.

Call me crazy but I'm even more hyped about this team because of that. The fact that the offense was not executed to Doc's liking adds to a number of very crucial factors that did not go right/were not ready last night (to name a few: the D, KG, Jet, JG, Doc's rotations). This team is very much an unfinished product but it's very promising.

Not me.  Rondo wasn't in the attack mode we need him to be in.  Green, as already stated, was anonymous.  KG was being passive early in the game and then when he began to get aggressive, I thought he had a bit of difficulty working the low post.... against Chris Bosh.

These are not "off-nights".  I can deal with off nights.  These were mentalities brought into the game.

Doc still hasn't figured out how to use JET properly either.

I was impressed with Bass, Pierce, and Barbosa's shooting, but thats about it.

Our guards did really good overall. KG , Sully and Green were of little help on offense.   SOmething was going on , maybe RAy Allen had prepared the HEAT staff with the sets that he knew ROndo would run or try and run.  The front court offense looked bad , but it may have been because the HEAT 's defense were right there at the correct spot for nearly every play the Celtics ran.  Only Pierce, or Lee creating shots seems to avoid this. ROndo had trouble getting his plays running becasue the Heat were in the C's back pocket

The HEAT defense shut the Celtic offense down, so C's could run noraml plays to KG.  Good preparation.

I don't think this was an accident.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Offense from starters was okay. Pierce and Rondo were great.
KG was a little weak in the post.
We didn't get to the line enough.

Bench was terrible. Green and Terry were garbage. Barbosa was on fire but don't get used to him lighting it up like that every night.
If we could get 10 points out of Terry and another 10 from Green we shouldn't have a problem competing with the Heat at all. Darko protecting the rim when KG is off will be invaluable too, I would not be surprised to see Darko out there with KG vs the Heat, patrolling the paint while KG goes out to guard Bosh.

Transition defense needs a little work but we made them shoot a lot of jumpers which is what we want- contested threes and 15 footers and less run and gun whilst clogging the lane in the half court and preventing them from getting to the free throw line.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

KG needs to shoot less jumpers and post up more and get high % baskets. yes i know it looked like he had trouble doing that but he did it last year in the playoffs when needed.

Still need more guys driving to the rack. We saw green do it pre-season. Bass did great trailing and finishing. I want high % baskets. draw fouls. get rebounds. and play D. exploit teams in transition. we have guys who can run now.

Oh and hey Rondo.....make the FT's dude come on. You had all offseason to work on that. no excuses. NONE.

I'll be more excited about the offense if Sully or somebody can step up as a steady threat in the post by the play-offs. Sully might make a statement in that regard tonight.

I liked the way the offense looked, the past few yrs we've looked anemic offensively. We're much more dynamic this season. People are panicking over the defense after one game and I don't really get why. With the defensive we have in place and the pieces we have to execute it, the defense will improve. I don't doubt that for a second.

Back to the offense, we still haven't scratched the surface of what this group of guys can do together. KG can play better, Jeff can play better, JET can play better, I know people keep gushing about Paul's shooting but he only went 6 of 15 (40%) and he can be more efficient). This is something that we haven't had in recent years, and I wish more people would be excited about it instead of handwringing about the defense. When I comes down to it, you can hold a team to 75 pts, but if you struggle to score 73 pts you still lose.
