I don't see anything wrong with the "let's move on" thing.

He keeps getting asked questions about his departure by the media.  He's been accommodating to the press, answering those questions with more candor than he probably should have.

Now, he realizes all of this is a distraction, and is saying it's time to move on.  He's directing that at the media, not at the Celtics, I think.  In that case, I don't see a lot of room for criticism.

Don't know why Ray still gets a pass. If this was anyone else they wouldn't get a pass

A pass is agreeing with Ray that the Celtics screwed this up. Roy's not giving him a pass, he's stating what he thinks Ray is saying.

Also, 'if this was anyone else'? I don't understand. If Paul Pierce did what Ray did, he wouldnt get a pass? Paul's nearly asked for a trade in the past, he's stated he will explore free agency when his contract is up. Nobody cared, cuz he's Paul freakin Pierce.

And Ray isn't just anyone else, he's built up a career of goodwill and given Boston dozens of fond memories from his time on the court, impacted hundreds if not thousands of lives with his work around the area. Having mixed feelings about him as a player is kind of conceivable.

I agree with Ray, it is time to move on, and for those out there who say he should just shut up already, I agree with that too. He's been a bit too public with his grievances. But I don't think Roy's giving him a pass by agreeing that Ray and the media should let this story die already.

Yeah I don't think Paul Pierce would get a pass at all. Just like he didn't get a pass when IMO he was wrongfully ejected from the playoffs in 2011 (http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nba/columns/story?columnist=macmullan_jackie&id=6462944)

I just find the whole "move on thing" funny. It's basically Ray bashing the organization, the coach and the GM and then once he's aired out all his dirty laundry, done every interview possible, have Jackie Mac fly down to Miami to have a complete one on one, then it's definitely time to move on now! That is as the OP states kind of a joke.

Also is Ray  serious about moving on? What's up with this article? http://bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view.bg?articleid=1061171056&srvc=sports&position=2

It's not about getting "a pass".  But seriously, people are attacking / criticizing him for saying "let's move on"?

People who have an issue in Ray saying "let's move on" are maybe having a hard time letting go themselves, don't you think?

I think people find it hilarious that he is saying "ok time to move on" after giving about a dozen interviews airing out his dirty laundry.

Like all of a sudden he thinks this topic has been brought up enough already. Guys I've done 12 interviews and had Jackie Mac fly down and do a whole write up on me come on a 13th interview?? I think it's time to move on. Don't see how people can't find that funny.

What's funny is that he is still talking: http://bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view.bg?articleid=1061171056&srvc=sports&position=2

If you don't care about what he says that's fine, but I also think it's fine and understandable for people to be pretty sick of hearing Ray.

I mean if Doc was talking this much about Ray or Danny or anyone on the C's I'd think the same thing. Stop bashing our guy, our memories, act more classy, stop airing out our in house stuff. Then if Doc said that's enough after 12 interviews I would certainly be rolling my eyes.

And some people are having a hard time "letting go" of telling other people to "let it go".  The need to defend/excuse/ rationalize Ray's actions seems just as compulsive as the need to criticize them.

We get a half-dozen "bash Ray" threads every time the guy has a bowel movement.  We're bashing him for saying "move on".

If Ray is hung up on his move to Miami, a lot of fans certainly are.  We've got an exciting team with perhaps the best depth in the NBA, and the most popular topic is anti-Ray gossip.  It seems a tad bit obsessive.

Interesting that you refer to a guy with OCD's bowel movements.  A bit Freudian there.

You might want to pick up a copy of the DSM IV and read up on OCD.

Yeah in a vacuum him saying "move on" sounds pretty minor. But it's not in a vacuum.

I don't see how someone can't roll there eyes at a comment like this. It's not a big deal but definitely should get a chuckle out of most people.

I find it odd that people are saying with a straight face "he said move on, whats the big deal? I don't get it?"

Not a lot of Freud in the DSM these days, yet his thoughts persist in our culture, e.g. Freudian slips.

Freud thought anxieties originated in rigid toilet training practices.

It was a joke.  It doesn't call for a condescending retort.

Some of you arent getting it.

Ray WENT OUT OF HIS WAY to trash the Celtics.  He personally scheduled three interviews with three separate news broadcasters to completely trash the Celtics.  There are two people talking about the betrayal- Ray in some egomanically attempt to justify himself, and Doc, who is simply responding and trying to defend the team.

Ray complained Doc didn't talk to him enough in the offseason.

Doc explained that he shouldn't have to call every 10 seconds to a 5 year vet to come back, and on top of that RAY STOPPED RETURNING HIS CALLS SO HE STOPPED CALLING.

Cripes, Ray is being a complete psychopath.  The guys ego is ridiculous.

It's hard for me to defend Ray at this point.  Before I was pretty much on his side.  We tried to trade him several times.  We had no loyalty to him.  We basically eliminated his role.  We benched him for some unproven 2nd year undersized shooting guard (I haven't seen enough from Bradley to be sold on him)... Then we went out and signed Terry.  There were rumors swirling about us signing Lee before Ray had even made his decision.  I didn't blame him for bailing on Boston and couldn't blame him for going to Miami.  It's the perfect place for his talents.  He's still an amazing shooter and Miami is clearly a contender.  I also feel like the Miami/Boston "rivalry" is overblown.  Just because they beat us two years in a row doesn't make it a "rivalry".  I rooted for Miami in the finals.  It's not like they are the Lakers.

He was the 3rd best player on our title team and deserves our respect.  His performance in the 2009 playoffs was legendary.  The man has been nothing but class his entire career.

That said...  Ray has been running his mouth and it's hard to defend him.  Some of the stuff he says, I agree with him... but he still shouldn't be running his mouth like this.  I don't hold it against anyone if they choose to boo him.  It's becoming clear he picked Miami at least in part to be vindictive and lash out for being mistreated by this organization.

Bottom line:  He has a point about being disrespected... but he hasn't been taking the high road about it.  You have my permission to boo.

I'm sorry, but is this a blog for Celtic fans?  Did Ray leave the team under controversial circumstances to sign with our biggest Eastern Conference rival?  Has he continued to say stuff about the Celtics and his departure?  Why in the world shouldn't Celtic fans start a bunch of threads ripping Ray?  Isn't that exactly what this sort of place is for?  Isn't the far more weird response to CONSTANTLY hector those complaining fans and defend/excuse/rationalize Ray's actions?  Maybe one of the things that keeps these threads popping up is the irritation from seeing a Miami Heat player defended on a Boston Celtics blog.

The Celts are like Godzilla.  We are so mean and green that we develop multiple rivalries.  Like Godzilla, we must destroy all of our rivals.  We gotta curb stomp the Heatles before we can make it to Monster Island (NBA Finals).  We must destroy all monsters!
