Does Barbosa have a chance to start

Barbosa is a liability as a defender/rebounder at the SG position. Not a starting quality player at that position.

They are better off with Courtney Lee as a starter (while Bradley is out injured) and keeping Barbosa in a bench role.

I'd actually like to see Rondo, Lee and Terry form a three guard backcourt (while Bradley is injured) ... and for Barbosa to be a non-rotation player. Not convinced they gain anything by squeezing Barbosa into the rotation.

I doubt doc will go with three guards, he usually uses 4 even if its just for four or five minutes.

I think we're going to see much faster pace that will make it more worthwhile to pack the rotation: Barbosa will be allowed to get up a lot of shots in brief spurts on the floor.  Guys will be asked to play much harder (ball pressure on D + running the floor on O) for shorter spurts.

Doc said he loved KG on the 5-5-5 system because KG knew when he would be in or out, so he could go extremely hard for those 5 minutes (give everything), knowing he was going to get his rest at a set time. I imagine, with this depth, a lot of people will know they are going to get a few mins at a time, they can go full boar during that time and not worry about conserving their energy (that's why Doc said PP is going to be on something similar to KG). Our depth isn't about the playoffs as far as who will play, it's about having enough guys who can help us rest our most important players during the regular season, so that those players have enough in the tank to go full out in the playoffs! What made KG so beast (he was already beast) was that he could rest... when KG was rested (unlike in game 7), he was a monster for us... he just couldn't sustain it w/o the rest (stupid every other day a game in the playoffs... something that helped Mia that no one talks about, oh well lol, I'm over it)!

Not a chance if everyone is healthy and even then I think it would take several injuries.

Even if Lee and Terry  are both hurt, I still wouldn't start Barbosa.  I would start Pierce at SG and start Green at SF.  If Rondo gets hurt, I start Terry.

If Rondo and Terry both get hurt, OK, then I start Barbosa.

No...

Barbosa is a luxury. You can slot him in if someone is injured. You already have Rondo/Lee/JET w/ Bradley in the wings. If one goes down you have a veteran to slot in without sacrificing speed or style of play. Barbosa, JET and Bradley are nice interchangeable pieces. Lee give more size and to add to that you have Joseph and Pierce if you want to go big.

It is that simple. Is clear Doc was not expecting to get him or asking to get him; but is glad he is here.

Barbosa'a a poorer defender than Terry who is weaker than Lee (and the Departed who must not be named).

I don't recall where I saw it, but I thought it a good point: as a fellow Brazilian, Barbosa hopefully can help acclimate Melo's transition to the big leagues.

A cheap contract to help a larger/longer-term investment.

I saw the same and initially was glad. I have a problem understanding how Barbosa can effectively mentor anyone if that player slated for the D league.

I think Danny saw a chance to pick up a decent player who will have an excellent chance to contribute. Nothing more than that and the fact he happens to be the same nationality as a rookie long shot project is a coincidence.

I'm really hoping that a surplus of guards means Rondo doesn't have to conserve energy and hold back to make sure he has something in the tank at the end of games but can instead go all-out from the start of the game, but I am disappointed they don't have a guard who is more of a point guard than a shooting guard.

We have a lot of problems and question marks. Most of the problems are good ones. The bad ones we have a great locker room and the most unselfish personnel to solve.
