http://sportsradiointerviews.com/2012/10/19/ray-allen-the-boston-celtics-put-me-in-position-where-i-had-to-move/

Here's the link to the interview that the Miami radio station had with Ray.

This is an interesting quote:

Quote
"When this contract situation came down, everybody in my circle — mom, family, brother, sister, friends from college, people who watched me since I was in high school and since I was in college — nobody wanted me to resign in that situation because they thought, ‘There [is] so much left in you and this team isn’t taking care of you or treating you right.’ That’s the way I felt and it was like, if you are going to come and not put out a good contract on the table then, hey, we gotta think about going somewhere else.”

When I read that I was just thinking about how selfish that sounds. But I can see what he was saying..sort of. I mean he said we "didnt take care of him," but Ray, you're a  37 year old sharpshooting SG that is on the declining end of your career. What do you really expect us to do for you? We offered you a way better contract than Miami offered. Now you're coming off the bench from Miami. Do you really think they are treating you that much better in Miami than you would have been in Boston?

I loved Ray in Boston, I have always been a fan of him until now. I'm not bitter anymore because I have moved on but it just hurts to see him wearing that cHeat jersey and playing alongside Lebron and DWade. But, I'm glad we have Jet and Lee to replace Ray. Were way better off with this current roster than with Ray. I can't wait to beat the cHeat on the 30th.

Lollerskates. The only contracts worse than what he got from Miami, were BAE and vet minimum garbage. No indication that Boston was offering him anything as insulting that that.

Ray such a whiner. He was offered more money by the C'S and a no trade clause was going to be in it to (wyc said) . Instead he takes less money to go play in Miami, how does that make any sense at all ?

He will be on the bench for Miami, at least in Boston he would have started for the first half of the year while Bradley was out and likely would have kept his starting job the rest of the year while Bradley rounds back into shape.

He wanted a 3 year/27 mil deal from the C's,but takes a 3 year/ 9 mil deal from Miami, but he won't accept more from the c's with a no trade included ? It literally makes zero sense

Glad he is gone though , dont have to watch him kill the shot clock anymore trying to get open . Lee, Barbosa and Terry more than make up for the loss of Ray. Rondo is going to have a blast playing up tempo with his new back court mates.

This guy should get booed off the court next time he enters the Garden.
We gave him a championship, the fans loved him and this what he thinks about the team?
Pathetic Ray.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

good riddance the team is much better without him anyway... love watching an offense that doesn't waste a shot clock running this guy off screens

Allen gave us all the big middle finger with a lot of thrust behind it.

All this garbage he is spewing is self-rationalization and spin to try to make himself not look petty, spiteful and vindictive both to the public and himself. He might be fooling himself but I am not sure how many others are being fooled.

Huh?  What has he said about the fans?

He took it personally that the C's tried to trade him, gave someone else "his" starting spot, and didn't make him the top priority to resign.  Understandable, he has always had a huge ego (it is part of what made him great).

But he has always been great to the fans.

I've thought from the very beginning that things are not going to end well for Ray in Miami and this doesn't change my mind.  That statement screams two words to me.  AVERY BRADLEY.  It's not about Rondo, money or any aborted trades.  It's about Ray feeling like he should never have been booted from the Celtic starting lineup.  That spite is what made him take less money and swallow Miami's spiel about how he'll be a major piece of their offense.

Well, Ray's been averaging 24 minutes in the pre-season.  That's with Mario Chalmers not playing and the Heat starters also playing reduced pre-season minutes.  There's basically no way Ray's going to play that much during the regular season and, knowing the Miami coach, a few DNP-CD's are in Ray's future as well.  Let's see how deals with that.

I'm so sick of hearing about Ray.  C'mon, we're so much better without him now.  I for one am pretty happy he didn't sign here, cause that would've meant no Courtney (maybe no Jet).

It's just obnoxious that he chose the Heat.

Actually...

Quote
Ray Allen contract: One year plus a player option

by Ethan J. Skolnick

The widespread assumption was that, if Ray Allen signed with the Heat rather taking a more lucrative offer with the Celtics, he would sign for as much as he could get. That would have been meant three years and roughly $9.5 million, and that’s what you probably read in a lot of places.
If you’ve read any Allen stories on the Palm Beach Post website, you read something different — that the deal was not a straight three years and instead included a player option. That (the presence of a player option) was based on information I received prior to Allen’s introductory press conference. And that’s why I asked Pat Riley about the reports of a straight three-year contract, a question that Riley refused to directly answer.
Unfortunately, however, I made an assumption: that the option came after the second season, and governed the third season.
Today, the Miami Herald reported that the option is before the second season, and there is nothing tying the the Heat and Allen for a third season.
That report is accurate.
What does it mean?
It means that Allen took even less, in terms of total possible income, that anyone thought. He could have received roughly $6 million per season from the Celtics, according to reports. It turns out that $6 million will be roughly his maximum payoff from Miami.

It also that Allen has some flexibility, if the first season doesn’t go as well as he hopes — or even if it goes even better for him individually, and he simply wants to opt out to try to command more in the open market.

Ray was asking us for three years and $27 Million - or basically a contract he "knew" we wouldn't / couldn't do - which I think is a way to create an exit path for him. We can't give him what he wants / needs so he has to get it elsewhere - that's legit.

Here's the problem - Miami for three years and $9 Million - a third of what he wanted from us.

Further - I understood it that our final counter to Ray was two years at $6 million per - so Ray would earn $3 million more playing one year less with us..

His story just doesn't wash. It was all ego in my eyes.

He complained we tried to trade him - didn't value him. Fair enough, however - when push came to shove in trying to woo him, the Celtics laid the biggest current offer on his table, with a njo trade clause - to me that ultimately says we valued him more than anyone else. So again, his story doesn't wash = ego...

Here's the real kicker for me though - how do you leave and go to the team that has been your biggest rival for four seasons. How to you bail on your buddies who you've been to battle with for five years and have had such major success with and raised a title.

I know it's a business but competitors are competitors and the guys you're so close with. I know they fight but I always saw Rondo over there lifting Ray off the floor just like everyone else when they get knocked down.

I think it's BS from Ray and a mistake on his part that he will regret long term.

I also understand why KG isn't talking to him. This "is" a business, but KG would "never" go to the rival, probably even for more money...

It's a business but there is no way you can spend that much time with people and not become family - it's a business but it's personal too.

Getting max contract or a lot more money somewhere else that cannot be matched where you are, that's one thing. But taking "less" money to play with the biggest rival - that's a hard one to swallow.

I'm not sure if the Celtics made him an offer other than the 2 year, $12 million deal that was reported.  I think that one was pretty fair.

It's all the previous stuff where I think Ray has a legitimate issue about security and whatnot.

We had a deal with the Jet before Ray signed with Miami.

...

Also, in Ray’s introductory press conference he said he told KG in a text what the Celtics were offering him, to which KG replied “Danny will step up”. Imagine KG’s reaction after finding out what Ray accepted from the Heat.

I wonder about this quote.  Obviously he's talking about a lot of people and I have no idea who they are, or what they're really like.

I wonder if friends from college includes Donny Marshall?  Played 2 years together at UConn and have both been part of the C's for the last 5 years.  I know people here hate Donny, but man would you all go crazy  if you find out Donny told Ray he should go to Miami.  Of course it might not have been Donny, maybe Ray's with you guys and doesn't like him either and they aren't friends ;)

His mom.  Again I don't know her, but I'm surprised.  She just seemed like such a part of the Celtics, almost a part of the team, like Eddie House's kid.  Also, when I picture most mothers, I picture someone who forgives (for almost trading him), is loyal, and would advise staying in a safe situation over trying something that could be potentially risky (like trying to make a marriage work, instead of getting divorced).  Ann Iverson or Gloria James, from how they're portrayed, they seem as selfish and egotistical as their sons, and I could picture them telling their sons to leave, but that's not how I picture Flo.

And is nobody in his circle on the team?  Not that I think teammates should automatically be part of your inner circle, and I know Garnett says he lost his number, but I always pictured Pierce and KG and Allen as all friends.  If I was thinking about switching jobs but wasn't sure, I'd probably run it by the co-workers I'm closest to.  Because who would understand my situation better than them?

Ray always seemed like a classy guy, I'm sure he has classy people in his circle, not a bunch of yes man and hanger-ons like so many others *cough*Lebron*cough*.  Really? Nobody in your circle thought you should re-sign with the C's?  I just find that hard to believe.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class
