It is disturbing to me that any Celtic fan could, under any circumstances, accept a Laker championship.
If the C's don't win, ANYONE other than the Lakers is the correct choice.
Given the 2 scenarios, I take a Heat victory every time (well, at least till they get to #17).
It's equally disturbing to me that any Celtics fan could, under any circumstances, accept another Heat championship.
Sorry, I've got to vote for the option that advances the Celtics the farthest in the playoffs. That's option one. I hate either option, but of the two, the first one is way more palatable to me.
Let me add, that if we want to keep our all-time lead on the Lakers, we'll have to get some more titles ourselves. We can't just sit around and hope for them to be stumble. With that attitude, they'll definitely catch up.
Yes of course we shouldn't sit on our hands while the Lakers surpass.
Apologies in advance if this is offensive -- I don't mean it to be -- but I've been curious as to whether younger fans tend to be more Heat-aversive while older fans tend to be Laker haters. I was raised since Jerry West and Wilt to despise the Lakers as the only real rival. The 80's drove it home, and the drought of the 90's/early 2000's with LA winning with Shaq, Kobe etc. further cemented the feeling.
I feel more indifference than hatred toward the Heat. Any NBA team other than the Lakers is preferable to a Lakers championship. Heat are equal to any other team in that regard as far as I am concerned.
Obviously I don't know your age, but just wondering if this tends to be a generational thing. Again, hope this doesn't come off as offensive -- just curious.
I'm middle aged as a Celtics fan. I turned eleven in 1980, and that was my first season watching NBA basketball. I immediately became a Celtics fan, and my dad would tell me stories about the '60s dynasty.
I loved Bird, Parish, McHale, DJ, Tiny, Henderson, and the rest of the '80s crew. It was a dramatic time to grow up as a Celtics fan with the Lakers as the main enemy.
But, my greatest joy as a Celtics fan was watching that 2008 team come together as a team and ultimately win the franchise's 17th banner after a drought of more than twenty years. I'll admit that I felt a sense of pride in remaining a die hard Celtics fan throughout the torturous '90s and early 2000s. That payoff was huge.
I guess I'm just looking to the future as a fan more than towards the past. The Heat have a scarier future as far as I'm concerned. The prospect of Lebron James' individual dominance over the entire game of basketball the way Jordan dominated the game in the 90s, frankly, scares me. Anything it takes to avoid that for my Celtics, but also for the game itself, is what I root for.
Also, Miami is in the East, and reaching the Finals is always better than not reaching the finals, as far as I'm concerned. We can't beat the Lakers unless we get there.
