Question about Josh Smith

Something just occurred to me.  He's due 13.2 mill this year from Atlanta.  Any trade (if we were to make one) would have to be for equal dollars.

All past talk I've heard about trading for Smith has involved Bass, but the numbers don't work.

But what about Green.  Green is making 9 mill.  Green and Bass for Smith + parts sure makes the money work.

I'm not saying that we SHOULD do that or that we WOULD do that.  What I'm asking is if we COULD do that?

The problem is, why would Atlanta trade Smith for Green and Bass?  They would be taking on a lot of longterm salary for inferior players to the guy they are giving up.

If Smith wants to be in Boston so bad, why doesn't he just sign for the mid level for one year next season and then we re-up him with Bird rights after that. It's about the "team"

Its pretty obvious by now that Smith really wants to be here. I am sure he can take a pay cut at will to play here. Even if he doesn't take it at will, I am sure Doc and KG can convince him

Not true, we exercised our Bird Rights on green, allowing us to go over the cap to sign him.  That's why I don't get all the stuff about Green being "overpaid" when he didn't price us out of acquiring anyone.

Having said that - maybe Danny signed Green to a larger deal so he could package him eventually for a high-priced star.  My thoughts are that if Jeff Green is playing out of his mind, he will be a trade target by other teams.  ATL might just want him for their rebuilding process.

Yes, based on speculation on the interwebs, it is clear that Smith's heart's desire is to play for the C's, along with Kevin Love and especially Kevin Durant.

There are lots and lots of ways to make the salaries work. Bass gets mentioned a lot because he is the most expendable player in the event that we do trade for Smith, and because his $6M gets you half way there. After December 15 we can mix and match Bass, Green, Milicic, Lee, Terry, and Rondo to come up with tons of deals that work on paper. Play with the espn trade machine.

I'm betting none of those are contracts that the Hawks actually want, though (except for Rondo's). If I was Atlanta I would want young, cheap, players with lots of promise. I don't mind bringing Bass on, but what I really want is Sullinger and Bradley.

Exactly.  And cap space.  I could see them not getting significantly better prospects than Sullinger and Bradley...but if that happens, they will not be taking on a contract like Bass'

And thats not to say Bass has a BAD contract.  But Atlanta is looking at a lot of cap space this summer that they worked hard to get.  They are going to make a run at some stars to fill it, before they give it up for roleplayers like Bass.

This only works if Smith waives his trade kicker.  And I just think Atlanta will have better offers.

I'm on board with the Josh Smith trade. , buy out, deal , what ever.

Smith /KG/PP /Rondo puts us in the conversation with LA

Danny just  has to trust us Smith fans on this ! 

Besides, I'm not so concerned HOW /WHAT / WHO  the deal involves.  I'm not getting paid for that , I'm a fan.

Thats Danny's job  to make deals and trades. Danny is a savy dude and he is getting better at wheelin and dealing every year....he loves it.

Half the battle is having a great PLAYER who wants to be on your team .

If Josh Smith really wants on this team , I'm confident Danny  can make it happen.

Just hoping it doesn't take Sully and Bradley to get it done.
