I think we can all agree that this line up Doc tried against

Given how awful Bass + Sully + Green line up was It appears to me that one of Bass or Sully has to go... both cant be part of the futur of the celtics..!
With KG PP and Terry retiring, our team will have
Rondo + Bradley + Green + Sully + Bass with Lee and Darko off the bench as the backbone of the team...
I say Give away Bass + Lee + 1st Rounder for Josh Smith!!!!
He can be the defensive presence we will need once KG retires! (Not forgetting he can defend pick n roll and guard Lebron!)

I saw your comment on red's army. And I'm going to tell you now the same thing I told you then.

1.We're not trading Courtney Lee after convincing him to come here for less money.
2.Atlanta would not accept that deal if they were hopped up on LSD.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why you'd EVER have those three guys on the court at the same time.  If Doc really thinks Sully can play the 5 like Big Baby could...yeesh.

I agree with MJohnnyboy & don't see any trades coming, anytime soon.

That said, it may just be that we need to keep expectations in check with the rookies.

Bass is going to be solid.  Fits a great role for the team next to KG and Rondo.

Green should be good off the bench if he can truely defend.  Still not sure what his offensive game consists of...
Sully has some talent but will need time to fit a role.  From what I've seen, he isn't as versatile as Davis was.  But if he can draw some charges and knock down open jumpers, he could find a backup PF role.

Something tells me Doc will be drilling a lot of defense in the next few weeks...  With all these fresh faces, D rotations are not up to Celtic standards yet.

I think they'll be fine together as a second unit frontcourt.

Why does one have to go? One has to start and one has to come off the bench. Doc played around with having them out there together in a pre-season game that KG sat out. That does not mean it's his plan once the season starts. I doubt you will see that at all. It's pre-season, I don't think you'll be seeing a bunch of guys who aren't going to be on the team playing in the 4th quarter either.

One of a dozen lineup options with this deep and versatile team.  Doc is experimenting and he should be.

This lineup hasn't worked mostly because Sullinger has no idea, at his stage of his career, how to close out space in the paint. It's been layup galore when Garnett, Milicic and Collins are out of the game.

If Sully plays 30 minutes a game, he's a 15-8 player with his eyes closed.

Al has to carry that team on his back...They need AL to pull beter numbers then that actually. Sully pulling those numbers is just what we need.

With KG PP and Terry retiring, our team will have
Rondo + Bradley + Green + Sully + Bass with Lee and Darko off the bench as the backbone of the team...

Hold up for a second here.

We have KG, Pierce and Terry tied up for the next 3 years.  Assuming they don't retire before that time, I doubt we will trade those three guys away...so they will probably stick around.

Once those three guys retire, we have approximately $10M (KG) + $15M (Pierce) + $5M (Terry) coming off the books.  That's about $30 million in cap space we will have to sign a legitimate starting calibre (and potential max contact) quality center.  Hell that's pretty much enough to sign two max contact players...

So with that being true, why would we start both Sullinger AND Bass?

Our backbone will be Rondo, Bradley, Green and Sullinger OR Bass (depending on how each is playing at the time).  The center position will then be filled probably via free agency using all of that cap space, while the second big man (our of Bass and Sully) along can come of the bench along with Lee and Darko.

Consider also that this is THREE YEARS into the future we're talking about here.  By that time Fab Melo will be 25 years old, will have 3 years of NBA experience and may well be playing at a Tyson Chandler level.    If that's the case then we start Rondo, Bradley, Green, Bass/Sully, Melo and we bring Lee, Darko and three other great role players (who we sign with the $30M we get from our key guys retiring).

I dont think we have anything to worry about right now...we have a lot of options.  By then Sully's rookie contact may expire and he may even choose to sign elsewhere..who knows?

If he can't then that's saying something, because Big Baby was pretty terrible at the 5...it seemed like the guy got blocked 5 times per night  ;D
