Delonte really needs to get his condition in order. I can see his career coming to an end in the very near future if he doesn't. Sad part about it is that he appears to be a very likeable guy and definitely has the talent to be around for years. You can have your reasons for not liking him, but anyone with a condition like bipolar disorder needs to be dealt with quite differently and I'm not sure the NBA lifestyle is made to cater to that type of disorder.

West tweeted later Monday: "Sorry moma..." and "I showed off on ur birthday again..."

Again?  Doesn't sound like West is going to get his act together anytime soon. I feel bad about his illness, but this is why I didn't want him anywhere near the Celtics.

I feel bad for the guy.  And he is in a very difficult situation.  It really is tough for teams to keep taking chances on him, when the risk of him going off the reservation is so great.  But I also wonder how he would react to not having basketball in his life.  From what I have heard, he is at his best during the regular season, when he is occupied with basketball related activities, and can live a structured life, but then falls apart in the offseason, when the structure goes away.

Whether this is the straw that breaks the camel's back (the camel being his career) or not, I hope whenever he does hang it up, that he can find structure elsewhere, to not slide back into bad situations.

I think its also important to realize that his issues go beyond just his disorder.  He also has some questionable characters around him when he goes back home...and that seems to be when he gets in trouble.

Big loss for Dallas if Delonte comes off the rails. He is probably their best guard on the team this season. They need Delonte performing at a high level.

Hopefully, it's just a blip.

I always liked him, and every time something like this comes up I think:
(i) no team will hire him again (but they always do) and
(ii) time for him to get some real help (but he never seems to do so).
Celtics fan for life.

I don't know if this is true or not.  A lot of people with legit mental illness do get serious help, but relapse.

Delonte seemed to do best in his career while in Boston, where he presumably had the strongest social network around him.  I hope he can get back to a stable place.

Delonte is bipolar.  There is nothing he can do to control that.  What can be controlled are the symptoms...with medication and/or therapy.  He probably just needs his meds adjusted (an ongoing thing).   The tape said that the Mavs and Rick Carlisle love what he brings to the team and this is probably a short term thing.

I am not an expert, but I have had some  (close personal) experience with this problem.

If not, any chance to bring him back to Boston as a backup to Rondo?  (Only half kidding...I love the guy...and he did seem to thrive here.)

Yeah, in fact, I find it really hard to believe that he wasn't getting a lot of help, when being essentially a multi-million dollar investment by an NBA team.  Now, maybe he wasn't making total use of it, but I imagine they would have provided him with all the resources he needed.

This is absolutely true. I have been receiving regular assistance with bi polar disorder, and some other mental disorders for close to a decade. I recently had a relapse and fell into a bad depression even though I take my medications religiously, see my psychiatrist monthly and go to my therapist bi-weekly.

Certain changes in life or events can trigger an overwhelming amount of emotions that throw off your balance and cast you into a bad area and bad time.

Also, I see nothing in the article that suggests Delonte's outburst is directly attributable to his disorder. He had an anger outburst. No one is saying what it was about. It could have just been he was p.o.ed over something and vented.

We will see.
