I agree.  Donny drives me crazy too.  He talks about himself too much and is always "name dropping" like he's someone important.

With Ray gone, I'm not sure he has a name to drop anymore.

I, too, can't stand Donnie, although he is great for his nuetrality on the games.   Everything though relates back to his UCONN days or his career.  Scal has more personality.

Scal is decent but needs some work. That will come with getting more experience. Donny is absolutely atrocious. He won't shut the crap up ever and when he talks he makes no sense and is completely irritating. I feel like he is completely anti Celtic as well. Tommy is still number one for me and like someone else said, if it comes down to him retiring, max is my first replacement choice, scals at number 2.

I'm thinking that they must already know that Donny isn't going to cut it. Why elae would they bring Scal in to begin with. I mean do they really need 5 guys to to a broadcast? Somebody's got to go.

I can't believe Scal's been wrongly fingered as the ridiculous dunce who compared Green to James Freaking Worthy.  It's so unfair given how levelheaded Scal has been.  Gorman was the idiot who made the comparison.  I don't understand what Gorman's been on.  He keeps riding this angle that people think Green isn't athletic.  What?  He actually believes that people see the 6'8 chiseled Green whose skin happens to be black and think average athlete because clearly chiseled black people get wrongly stereotyped as so-so athletes. 

I don't know how most feel about Gorman but I've always found him to be terrible.  Just unknowledgeable about the game, a sneaky homer with a genial front whose smarmy side comes out when Tommy is not next to him.  I think he's benefited from Tommy being so over the top because he's thought to be fair and balanced by comparison.  I find him boring and stupid.

Scal's been amazing.  I wish he could do all the games.  When a play goes awry or is successful, he can actually tell why like when Darko threw a pass out of bounds and he assigned the blame to Sullinger because he didn't drift to the open angle.  You don't hear that from Tommy and you definitely don't hear that from Donny who is busy making stuff up or repeating that all Ray needs to make a shot is set his feet, which sounded so great the first time that it needs repeating every five minutes. 

One of my favorite Donny moments from his terrible Olympic work was when he compared Manu to Lebron.  Not that the comparison was terrible, Manu and Lebron were similar all-around forces for their teams but Donny just can't stop before he makes stuff up and one of the reasons he cited for the comparison is that Manu even played PF just like Lebron did.  Under no circumstances did that ever happen, it sounds silly thinking about it but there is Donny just blurting it out, no doubt smiling like an idiot like he does.  The guy does no research and has zero sense of humor.  I just can't stand him.  When he and Gorman do a broadcast together and Gorman is at his smarmiest, they are worst than the San Antonio crew, which is as bad as it gets.

I'd also love to have Scall full-time. I remember hearing him describe that turnover you reference and being really impressed, almost shocked, to get that sort of info. As for Donny, although he seems like a nice guy, he's almost all fluff. Not only did the constant Ray-praising get old, it kind of made me think that Donny had a man-crush on Ray, or some sort of financial agreement with him.

I'd prefer a rightside up broom commentating over Donny Marshall. I seriously can't take him and his constant nostalgic rants about his playing days in UConn. Dude, you played in the NBA for four seasons as an end of the bench player, and because of that you don't sound as much credible as you much as you sound pretentious!

I don't mind Scal as long as Donny isn't commentating, as long as he's not ranting about his old playing days as a cheerleader. And honestly, he hasn't been that bad.

Count me as one who thinks you are 180 degrees out of phase in this criticism.  I have always found Gorman to be well versed in both basketball and the Celtics, insightful and accurate in his play by play, and always a good listen.  I think he is my favorite play by play of all basketball announcers of all time.  Sorry he's not your cup of tea.

Could be they are considering bring in another play by play guy and making two teams. Tommy and Gorman for home games, Scal (hopefully) and a new guy for away games. Duh Donny stays as a guest interviewer on sideline/ lockeroom or whatever.

Gorman is just so good that it would be a shame taking even a single game from him.
