From what I've been reading from Cs fans posts, Sully is a rebounding beast/machine.

I don't follow College basketball, so - for what is worth - all I've seen from Sullinger, is based on Summer League basketball....and I think he is an average rebounder at best.

What is your take?

He has most of the tools to be a great rebounder. Muscle, bulk, a rear end that was made for boxing out. He's going to need to hone his fundamentals to be a great rebounder in the NBA because he doesn't have the length or supreme athleticism to do it any other way, but he does have the tools and I wouldn't take any summer league numbers seriously. Rondo, after all wasn't averaging 12 assists in summer league. We know how that turned out.

Assuming he warrants the minutes at any point in his career and how hard he's wiling to work, yes he could be a good rebounder. As long as its more than what BBD offered, I'll be happy.

Hard to say before we se him in some nba games.

But for what its worth he averaged 9.2 rebounds last season in college, 3.1 offensive ribbys per game, 12.4 Off Reb %, 23.8 Def Reb %.

He seems to be really good on the offensive glass and thats nice cause thats something the Cs hasnt had in a long while cause of various reasons.

Anyway, I guess we will see if that rebounding talent carriesa over to the pros.

I'll tell you this much...he understands how to rebound.  He is a very instinctive rebounder, who knows how to read shots and see where the ball is going to go.

But that doesn't necessarily mean he will be a great NBA rebounder.  He now needs to show that he can get to that spot in the NBA.

Well, don't put too much stock in the summer league. In actual games, he will have a well-defined roll, the floor will be more spaced, the paint will be policed realistically, teams will try harder to get back on defense, etc etc

He was a very good rebounder in college- he averaged about ten per game and in the big ten he was first in rebound rate his freshman year and second last year... to compare him to some big NBA names he rebounded less than DeMarcus Cousins but more than Greg Monroe did, if that helps.

Sidenote:

his 12.4 off and 23.8 def reb % would put him in the top 20 in the nba in both categories, but its in college so like i said we will have to wait and see but its a good indicator that the dude is pretty good on the glass.

I think we can be fairly confident, though. Unlike scoring, rebounding tends to translate pretty well from college to the pros. Historically, good college rebounders are good NBA rebounders. Obviously, this isn't always the case, but it tends to translate better than scoring and other measures.

Good NCAA rebounders are usually good NBA rebounders, sometimes they're even better int he NBA. No zone defense in the big leagues means that your most likely going to be in better position to box-out your 1-on-1 match up and control defensive rebounds.

Big Baby averaged 10.4 rebounds per game as a Junior.  It doesn't always translate that well.

I hear this a lot that good college rebounders are usually good NBA rebounders. My impression is that

1) OUTSTANDING college rebounders are usually at least good NBA rebounders

2) ONLY good college rebounders become good NBA rebounders

3) good college rebounders don't become terrible NBA rebounders

4) Wings and guards who rebound their position well in college almost always rebound their position well in the NBA

... do you agree with this? I think about guys like Big Baby, Hansborough, Luke Harangody  who have body problems. Those guys were all excellent college rebounders but not "good" NBA rebounders. You'd probably say that they are not bad, but you wouldn't say they are good.

Well, he led summer league in rebounding, so I dont see how that would make you think hes just average.

Looks pretty darn good at the power forward position.

Probably more like middle of the pack at the center position. Or even slightly below average.

Those are my expectations.
