( I vomited in my mouth a little bit when i saw him in that jersey for the first time )

I really think he now realizes hes made a mistake and the fans at the garden will surely remind him of that in january!

At first I tried to be nice about Ray leaving to MiA, but everyday the voice in my head says **** a little Ray louder. I didn't want it to be that way, but boy did he do us dirty. Betrayal is a hard thing to just get over.

That's disgusting.  That's his way of sticking it to us.  You lay your bed Ray...it's time to lie on it.  Traitor.

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would
be a step down. I am pure 100 percent Celtic. I think if you slashed my wrists, my

I guess I am in the minority of not really caring that ray left us. I really disliked his game last year and I thought he a) made our offense very stagnant by taking too long to get open running screens and not being able to create his own shot. And b) showing his age by slowing down big time on defense.

I am much happier to have Jason terry in that role. At this point in both their careers terry is the much better play right now. I am much more excited to see what terry can do for the celtics then I am to worry about what ray Allen's doing.

Rays tone of voice was much different than usual in that interview. He almost seems somewhat depressed.

I dont think Ray(stupidly) expected the hit on his legacy he has taken by signing with miami to ride Lebrons coat-tails..

the guy basically overnight went from someone who possibly couldve had his number retired in boston to the ranks of Johnny damon and other sports figures who will be hated/reviled in boston..

Thanks for the post.

Wish I could be at that first Garden game. I'd be one of the ones cheering Ray and booing LeBron and Co.

Sure - he's with the enemy, now. But I just can't and won't ever hate Ray Allen - especially after he was instrumental in KG coming here, and instrumental in us hanging Banner 17.

Ray Allen was also a part of countless Community Service projects throughout the BOS community...donating for computer labs...participating in the marathons...etc, etc.

I'll miss his mom, too. She was a GREAT fan, and this pic of her consoling Spike Lee right after BOS had come from behind to upset NY was priceless:

I'll never forget.

And thankfully, I'm sure that either Wyc and Co or Heat Ownership will do the right thing with Ray's jersey when that time comes.

Still drives me crazy what a stupid decision he made.

First, he turned down double the money to stay here.

To make matters worse, he hurts his legacy by becoming a role player in Miami.  While he may not have been the man here, there were certainly nights where he was the first option.

That won't be the case in Miami.

Winning a second title here would've been a feather in his cap.  Winning a title in Miami will put him in the same class as Eddie House: a nice role player who happened to be be on a great team.

Wow - so you think Ray Allen, legacy-wise, will be looked at as being similar to Eddie House?

Not I.

I don't think Eddie House, even at his best season, was near the level of Ray Allen.

IMO, I strongly believe that Ray Allen already has enough in his resume to put him in the HOF - without winning a title in MIA.

No.

I was a bit unclear.

He's already cemented his legacy as a first ballot Hall of Famer.

I'm simply saying that if he wins a title with Miami, he's essentially Eddie House: a spot-up shooter who knocks down open jumpers even more.  It does nothing for his legacy and arguably diminishes it slightly.

If he won a second title here, it'd add to his legend as he'd still be viewed as a "star" in Boston (true or not true).

But again, Ray's an all time great and a first ballot Hall of Famer.  I just think he's now signed up for role-playing status when he could've at least masqueraded (if not still been) a star here.

Good Point - especially the last sentence.

Ray will definitely be a role player in MIA on most nights...I'm sure he will probably cut loose for a few scoring binges, but for the most part MIA= LeBron-Wade-Bosh.

I see your point, now.

How quickly some forget.

Ray almost single-handedly kept us afloat before the All-Star break. Once he got hurt and Bradley emerged, I don't know if he ever recovered physically, but he was drained mentally and emotionally (losing starter status and almost getting traded again). But in January, he shot LIGHTS OUT.

And thankfully, I'm sure that either Wyc and Co or Heat Ownership will do the right thing with Ray's jersey when that time comes.

I doubt that. Even if he wins multiple titles in Miami, how many teams retire numbers of hired guns who are at best their 4th best player and come off the bench?

As for Boston, I think he now realizes the animosity the Celtics organization as a whole feels. Mostly everybody - from DA to Doc to most of the players - has stayed PC, but I think Ray has finally realized how dirty he did us.

In the end, I honestly don't think we will miss him as much as he will us. Truly a sad turn of events for a guy of his class and character. Like Clench123 said, he made his bed. And when all is said and done, he's gonna have a hard time falling asleep.

Jon is correct in as long as he stayed here, he would have remained part of the Big Three/Four. His status, whether a starter or reserve (whether deserved or not), would have went unchanged. He decided to become a role player.

I wish him the best personally, but professionally, I hope he doesn't hit a single three all year (OK, maybe a couple against the Lakers). You know the saying, if you aren't with us, you're against us. Ray is the enemy now, and that's all there is to it. Thanks for the memories, and enjoy your Darko elbow when you try coming through the paint October 30th.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
What's up with Ray?  He's usually much more well-spoken in interviews and press conferences.  It seemed like he either wasn't into it, or that he was having a hard time answering the questions.  Very bizarre and unlike Ray.

Put it out on the "reduced" rack?
