And the Heat and Celtics wasn't worst. haha

Technically no, because all of the fools around here won't admit there was any controversy there since THOSE bad refs ARE the official nba refs

What's going to happen (God Forbid this), is that a superstar will get hurt because of the the officiating - only THEN will something get done.

Lord knows I was on pins and needles in the Washington-St Louis game...that game got a little chippy. You never want to see your star players get into a potential situation that could spiral out of control.

Hopefully something will get done soon to resolve this.
St. Louis is a chippy team. A lot of needling and flopping trying to get personal foul calls.

Yeah, St Louis is a chippy team, but I was hoping that RG III wouldn't get caught up in it, and he did at times - because of the officiating.

With RG III, WAS has a chance to win EVERY game - FINALLY. The man is THAT GOOD, imo.

Last thing I want is for him to take that competitiveness and talent and get a late hit, illegal hit, etc - all because of the lack of officiating. Then, your franchise player is damaged goods.

Could happen to Brees, Eli, Peyton, Brady - you name it. I'm hoping that both sides give or whatever - soon.

The last play was a disaster and GB has a right to be mad.

But what was interesting to me was a lot of times the announcers criticized calls, even though they were accurate by the letter of the rulebook, but they "weren't serious enough" to be called.  Or I think Gruden said "I don't see what the point of these penalties are".  The notion seemed to be that penalties should be about managing the game, instead of just penalizing infractions as they occur.

The refs have made a ton of bad calls but some of the criticism seems based on what kind of actual rulebreaking should and shouldn't be penalized.  It sounds like the NBA isn't the only sport where there's a written rulebook and an unwritten one about how to apply the rules situationally.

Its openly been that way for a long while.

The NFL went out of its way to stop calling offensive holding so much, Refs only make the call "if" they feel it prevented the defender from effecting the play....

I don't watch a lot of football, but that's what I figured.

It just caught my attention because I've heard a lot of people complain about NBA refs doing the same thing, and hold up the NFL as the way things should be done.

The NFL is smiling on the inside.
Naw, they're annoyed that the conversation will be on the refs again till Thursday at least, maybe longer.

I honestly don't think they care, ratings and gate attendance are up. If anything this is proving to the owners that us poor rubes can be counted on to put money in the pot regardless of quality and thier right to hold a hard line with the officials.

The only way it will change is if there's a breaking point. And i wonder how close people are to it. I'm real close after that Pats Ravens game. It's a joke, none of the results this year are legitimate.

“The horror! The horror!” ― Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
The precise quote is "The horror! The horror! The horror!", I think. It's also a better depiction of the state of NFL officiating right now.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

Packer fans seem to forget they had their only td drive kept alive because of a phantom PI call.

that last play is not what lost it for the packers. Had they showed up in the first half, maybe they would have won.

Right, but the overall point is that the NFL has incompetent employees providing a key part of their product, and that should be unacceptable for a league that preaches about having the best of the best, and protecting player safety.

I mean hell, Pollard came out on T & R and esseintally said that defenses are head hunting again (see Reed,ed the matt schuab hit, the hit on that raiders receiver all non-flagged) because they know the replacement officials are easily intimidated into not throwing a flag.

Webb straight up punched edelman in the helmet multiple times sunday 10-15 feet in front of a ref who watched the whole thing.

This play is just a highly visible black eye, the games in general have been a joke the first 3 weeks.

If you want the worst call of the weekend, thats probable in the ten/det game where the refs walked off a 15 yard penalty from WRONG 44 yard line, making the total yardage awarded for the sketchy PF 27 yards, setting up the GW field goal.

Or (even though it didn't benifit SF score wise) letting harbaugh call timeouts, look at the replay, then announce to the official that it was a "challenge timeout" and he wanted a review now.

On one of these magical "challenge timeouts" he go tthe call reversed, so he got a timeout refunded.

I agree, we need the real refs back no doubt. But I don't feel sympathy for GB. The game is a sum of it's parts. This one was not one-sided, there were calls made that helped the packers score points as well. This isn't the same as the heat getting call after call for 4 quarters.

After this game http://www.nesn.com/2010/10/referees-make-two-touchdown-errors-in-vikings-packers-game.html
Packer fans told us Viking fans to get over it and play through it. During the NFFC game in 09, GB fans laughed and said "play better".

This game at least had bs go both ways. This is more on the pack than it is on the refs.

Does the League Office have the authority to reverse the call?

I was wondering whether it could potentially happen, whether Goodell might rationalize it as "Extraordinary circumstances, integrity of the game, blah, blah, blah."

I think he could reverse it, but I don't think that would be the definition of Pandora's Box

Goodell has the power to change the outcome of the game if there is some issue of massive unfairness under the rules. Similar to how the refs can award a touchdown on a play if something completely unfair happened. (ie coach takles a player who's running free)
