Half true. He did start as a rookie, but he did not play very well.
He played well enough to warrant 28 minutes per game and 13 pts and 4.5 assists. I guess he must have been doing something right.
You forgot the 2.9 turnovers he produced, too.
And his PER was 13.0 which is pretty bad for a starting pg.
And the Timberwolves won 15 games that season.
And the next season his game fell apart (PER=7.13). Although he had hip surgery before the season, that is just a terrible production.
He might have done something right, but it was not being a pg, because they played the triangle offense, and he didn't get it.
