Where Will Derek Fisher End Up?

By HOOPSWORLD
Basketball News & NBA Rumors

Was there any hope of keeping the free-agent guard?

“There still is,” Brooks said. “Everything is still fluid.”

Nonetheless, Fisher remains unsigned. I’ve been told the Los Angeles resident routinely practiced at both the Lakers and Clippers practice facilities this offseason. Meanwhile, the Oklahoman’s John Rohde reported the Thunder would only re-sign Fisher at the veteran’s minimum. Sports illustrated’s Sam Amick quoted an unnamed source saying FIsher’s chances of joining the Thunder are “remote” since the team already features three point guards in Russell Westbrook, Eric Maynor and Reggie Jackson.  Brooks also mentioned in general terms that he leaves personnel decisions to Thunder General Manager Sam Presti.

Still, Brooks gushed plenty about Fisher’s four-month stint with the Thunder. Even though Fisher averaged a career-low 4.9 points on 34.3% shooting through 20 regular-season games with the Thunder, Brooks marveled at how the 38-year-old’s playoff experience and leadership boosted an otherwise youthful team. Laker fans have always remained split on a similar role he provided when he helped the Purple & Gold to five NBA titles.

“He knows how to play. He was terrific for us,” Brooks said. “I tell him all the time, ‘Derek, don’t get into coaching. Don’t get into sports.’ This guy is bigger than that. I always tease him, ‘Run Apple.’ You’re smart. You can lead. That guy is a leader. One day he could probably be the commissioner.”

Fisher was decent in the playoffs but I'd literally take anybody else before I'm that desperate.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If I'm Ainge, I hold onto Dooling's phone number and drunk-dial him in March.

Fisher is still a great defender. He did a good job on Allen every time we played to Lakers.

Saying fisher is a great defender is the worlds biggest oxymoron. We already have 14 under contract. I can't see us signing any other veteran. I would not oppose fishers locker room presence however.

There might be more options available come trade deadline as others have pointed out in various other threads.

But having the 12 players who'll be playing come playoff time in the lockerroom right now would be very benefitial.

We need a 3rd string ball handler (behind Rondo and Jet)...I'd take Jonny Flynn or Terrence Williams.

I wouldn't be opposed to Fisher...

He's not big (height wise) but he's strong, tough and gets in opposing teams heads.

He's a proven clutch shooter, he's got a great leadership presence, and he's a solid decision maker under pressure.

He's the type of player who wont stuff the stat sheets, but could win you a key playoff game or two.

with Dooling gone we definately need a backup PG because Bradley's health is uncertain, so right now Terry is the only guy we have that can play PG.  If something happens to him (or he gets in foul trouble) we need to play Pierce at the PG spot.

Fisher would come cheap, and you could always axe him mid season if another opportunity arises.

I question his abilility to spend minutes at the 3 spot, but then we don't really need that (with Lee, Terry, Bradley) and a PG is really the more important need for us right now.

tmac might interest me, but he is fairly brittle

terrence williams signed with the pistons

rather tmac than fisher as he could play some 3.

rather keep kris and dionte than fisher.

undecided about tmac or the rookies, injury potential is worrying in a year the c's have a hard cap.

I don't get why we cant just roll with what we have now and worry later about getting someone if we need them. I think Xmas and KJ is okay for now, neither (or any other player we bring in) will see much time (if any), anyway! I mean, if someone gets hurt, it's not like we are stuck with who we have, we can cut Darko, Collins, and the rookies if need be! I say, stand pat now. Let's build chemistry with who we have now... let the rookies get those minutes when we blow teams out. If there was someone out there worth giving up Xmas and KJ, I'd be all for it... right now, there is no one good enough to fill the positions they do (1 and 3)... unless you guys know some player I'm overlooking. You can just name guys that will warm the same bench as the rookies, I mean someone who will command time b/c they can beat out someone ahead of them... if there is no one out there like that, let's just go with what we have and get what we need when/if we need them.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I think the Celtics should sign someone to the point-guard position, Rondo is the only pure playmaker, Terry is a combo, Bradley does not have great control of the ball and Lee is an guard.
Definately Celtics need a backup PG, I like Flynn, is a player microwave, Earl Boykins could be another option, another option for me would be Gilbert Arenas.

T-Mac (Knicks may be their next home?), Pietrus (uncertain future, rumors say that he soon will sign by an NBA team) ... but they are not point-guards.

 Larry Hughes?

Probably the best available PG on the free agent market. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Fisher on board as a third stringer but I doubt he accepts that role here.

My first preference, however, would be to sign a wing with legitimate size. I think they can live with the PG depth of Rondo, Terry and Bradley. Courtney Lee can play there some too if Doc is really pressed. I'd prefer someone that can be a backup to Jeff Green and/or be a two guard with legitimate size (like Marquis had) since all of the team's guards are small guards. A third string wing with size. If that wing is a ball-handler, all the better.

I absolutely hate the Lakers but I would not mind Fisher on this team.  I doubt he would come here though.
