Darko's motivation to sign with the C's:

Quote
@SherrodbCSN Darko Milicic's agent said several factors went into his decision to sign w/ Celtics, Doc Rivers being among them. "He has always had a lot of respect for Doc Rivers' style of play and feels he can help fill a need" Darko's agent told #csnne

Darko's agent Marc Cornstein also said D. Ainge was 1st to contact him when T-wolves waived Darko. "That meant a lot to him" said Cornstein.

How old is he?

Thank you! He can still get better!
That's what they said 5 years ago too...

Yea, well, most people look better after playing here. Even if he doesn't get any better he is still serviceable!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

We're getting Darko, who has regular season career averages of 6.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.3 bpg, for the veteran's minimum. Houston is paying Omer Asik (2.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.8 bpg) $25M/3 years.

TP for that healthy dose of perspective.

So basically we swapped bigs with the Wolves. However, they're paying Stiemsma about 2.5M. Darko is only 2 months older than Stiemsma, and in a division where you have Bynum, his far superior post D will be of great use to us.

Thank you! He can still get better!

Well, he's been a pro for 9 years.  I don't think his skills will improve any, but hopefully he'll be a good team defender under Doc's system.
Hopefully. Because he's not a good rebounder, good shooter, or good scorer (in case this sounds like Jason Collins, it is because he _is_ like Janson Collins in many respects).

i hated the collins signing, this isn't much better, rather have had ben wallace/anderson plus one of d brown/barnes or balkman even, non much cover at the 3, we have a soon to be 35 year old pierce backed up by guy coming off heart surgey and a rookie selected 51st overall.

These min signings count more than usual cos they are against a hard cap this year.

Dooling gone, I guess that answers those concerned about a roster crunch. We had an extra spot we hadn't counted on.

If this is true it is very simple.

6 More fouls on Dwight Howard.

The great equalizer when playing the Lakers.

Howard is useless if he is going to the line 18 to 20 times a game. And the Lakers will be less effective.

I can hear Tommy now..."This Kid Can Play!"

Forget Dwight Howard, who is out west and still has to recover from back surgery. This is 6 more fouls against Bynum who is in our division.  Excellent move. Darko along with Collins means were all set at defending the Bynums and D12's of the league.

I agree with adding to my point. It will keep KG fresh and help on Bynum.  My point was Howard is an awful free throw shooter. I would hack Howard all day long when you have a ton of big depth.

Heres the thing, if Darko plays up to the Semih Erden or Greg Steimsma level in camp and Jason Collins plays at his career average? We still have our two rookies to use in case of emergency. We have enough depth to trade Bass or Wilcox if the option comes up. We can play KG some at the PF alongside the two of them. If Darko sucks, we cut him.

Whats not to love?

The Celtics have made a number of signings this offseason to sure up the guard position going into the 2012-13 season.

But one guard signed, Keyon Dooling, has decided to hang them up for good.

"Keyon has decided that he has given the NBA 12 good years and that it's time to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family," said Dooling's representative Kenge Stevenson. "He will never forget his time in Boston with the Celtics."

"We'll miss Keyon's spirit and energy, both on and off the court," said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. "The whole Celtics family wishes him well as he enters the next phase of his life."
