I suppose its for the biannual as he was offered 3 years 6 million with Real Madrid.

Could be to prepare trade on January 15th when Green/Bass trade restriction get's lifted.

Darko Milicic, as reported by Novosti.rs, is flying to the States and he will likely sign his new contract in the NBA in the coming days.
The Boston Celtics are the favorite to sign the Serbian player who turned down a three-year, $6M offer from Real Madrid in the summer because he wants to play in the NBA.

PLease say it aint so!

This guy is one of the worst bigs out there, there are much better alternatives!

Im blown away by this, seriously why would we sign this BUM!? ??? ??? ???

There is absolutely NOTHING this guy does better than any other big prospect out there. I would rather have Melo playing minutes instead of this guy thats how bad this scrub is even though hes got nba experience.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO,m and how about no!

Surprised Darko wants to return to the NBA after the way his time in Minnesota ended. Figured he'd go back to Europe to receive a major role instead of a bit-part role in the NBA.

I think this would be a very nice get for the celtics.  A guy that can play legit backup minutes at the center position so we don't have to rely on Fab right away.  I can't really think of any downside with this.,
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Horrible big, I agree.  So over rated and one of the worst picks ever.  At least Greg Oden and Sam Bowie had excuses (injury) for being bad players, Darko does not.

You cant think of any downside????

This was posted by crimson_stallion in another thread. Read this and take a look at Darkos numbers http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/milicda01.html that btw are HORRIBLE and then tell me thruthfully if you cant see any downside!

Geeeez, seems anybody that is 7 feet tall is a good player these days...its like, yes hes a bum but at least hes a 7 footer.... ::)

Kenyon Martin (6'9" 240 lbs)
Ben Wallace (6'9" 240 lbs)
Darko Milicic (7'0" 275 lbs)
Chris Andersen (6'10" 228 lbs)

Next (and IMO most importnatly) they need to be good rebounders, so lets look at rebound rate:

Kenyon Martin (Off: 6.1 | Def: 17.4 | Tot: 11.6)
Ben Wallace (Off: 9.3 | Def: 24.2 | Tot: 16.3)
Darko Milicic (Off: 7.9 | Def: 14.3 | Tot: 11.1)
Chris Andersen (Off: 11.6 | Def: 22.5 | Tot: 17.2)

All four guys are better rebounders then out current starter (Bass), with Wallace and Anderson the standouts.

Next, here's how they compare in terms of scoring in the paint.  This includes all shots in the paint area including both inside and outside the restricted area:

Kenyon Martin: 64-108(59%)
Ben Wallace: 28-64 (44%)
Darko Milicic: 58-124 (47%)
Chris Anderson: 52-85 (61%)

Kenyon Martin and Chris Anderson are clearly the most efficient inside scorers of this quartet. Now on to defense:

Defensive stat (steals+blocks+charges)

Kenyon Martin: 2.10
Ben Wallace: 1.81
Darko Milicic: 1.17
Chris Anderson: 2.19

Alternate Win Score:

Kenyon Martin: 1.83
Ben Wallace: 2.24
Darko Milicic: 0.74
Chris Anderson: 3.25

Looking at all of the above Darko is clearly the weakest link.   He's the weakest defender, the worse rebounder, and has the worst 'win score'.

Wallace is the second best rebouder and has a great win score, but he's a pretty major offensive liability.

That leaves Anderson and K-mart.  K-Mart is more versatile offensive (better scoring rates outside the restricted area and from midrange) but Anderson is a better defender and rebounder.  Honestly, I'd be thrilled with either!

Im not sure why you think its so obvious, I don't want Darko because he was the # 2 pick.  I want him because he will be a solid backup big.

Of the players you mentioned, I would obviously prefer Martin however im sure Danny did his due diligence there and determined we couldnt get him.

That leaves the ancient Ben Wallace, the oft injured and troubled Chris Anderson and Darko, who is still only 27 years old and can do a serviceable job in 15-20 minutes a game.

You know the Patriots a few years ago brought in Gerard Warren who was the 6th overall pick at one point and was a huge dissapointment but when they put him in a specific role that they needed he was a big contributor.  To overlook a player just because of where he was originally drafted is short sighted IMO

This is not about where he was drafted, this is about  a career 46% shooting for a 7 footer, this is about a 7 footer who has a career average of 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.

This guy flat out SUCKS!

There is no way this guy is gonna play well dont matter what situation you put him in.

He is a scrub and will always be one.

How is it not obvious when you look at the numbers.

Chris andersen is a GOD compared to this bum.

I think Darko would give us much needed size in front court.
I wish people who are so against this move just chill out.
 :-X

What alternatives are there with just the bi-annual exception?

I think you are really underestimating Darko, which I previously didnt think was possible.  He is a serviceable backup big man, and is probably the best we can afford

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Don't see what the big deal is with people hating on him. He's another guy that hasn't lived up to potential and we'll get on the cheap. He is a proven low post defender and we are going to need his size in the playoffs against Andrew Bynum. He'll get easy buckets with Rondo throwing him the ball. If Rondo can keep Ryan Hollins looking good at times he can make Darko a great role player around the rim on offense.
Our locker room with KG barking at him, Doc's guidance and Rondo's ability to get him the ball will be the best possible situation for him.
If this is true I'm wondering why we didn't go after Andre Blatche. Similar circumstances where we could make much more of his potential than those who have tried before us.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Does Darko have the lockerroom issues that Blatche has?  I thinkk the off court/on court lazyness were the reasons we didnt go after blatche.

That and somebody pooped in his shoes

agreed, don't go by where he was drafted (like K Brown) bi annual for a true center who can play in nba, melo still unproven
kg, doc and rondo have made many a scrub look good

If this is true, I think Darko would fit in here rather well.

A veteran team? Check.

An all-time great Big in KG to play alongside? Check.

Get him on a team with a proven, winning coach and staff? Check.

Get him on the cheap? Check.

He'd be coming to a team with one of the top PGs in the league? Check.

Average of 1.3 blocks in only 18 min for his career? Check.

Still rather young - at 27 years of age? And can still get better? Check.

I'm on board. I'd be happy with Darko.
