u think overpaid Brenden Haywood nd past his prime Jason Kidd are betta then a healthy OJ Mayo nd Chris Kaman?
Haywood had a bad contract, but was a better player than Kaman. Haywood scored more efficiently, rebounded better, passed the ball better (more assists, fewer turnovers), and both are about the same defensively. In fact, when you look at Kaman's turnover rate and shooting splits versus his usage rate, he is actively detrimental to have on the floor. He is a below average player according to every single metric I can find to evaluate him. Haywood was above average. Regardless of the contract situation, Haywood is a better center.
Same pattern with Mayo and Kidd. Mayo is a terrible shooter who uses the ball too much; Kidd was an effective shooter who played to his strengths. Kidd could pass and rebound and defend better than Mayo (i.e. more assists, more rebounds, fewer turnovers, fewer fouls, more steals). Regardless of his age, Kidd is a better player on the court than Mayo in every statistical category except total points scored; but since Mayo is a volume shooter, he is costing his team as many points as he scores due to his low shooting splits.
nah i cant co-sign dat statement Collison is a solid point guard too he's not a star but he's betta then Kidd at disstage of his career.
Collison is a solid player. However, Kidd rebounds the ball better, passes the ball better, and defends better (more steals, anyway). Collison is a better all-around scorer, but Kidd was better in other areas that Collison is alarmingly deficient.
All Kidd did in dallas last year was chuck up 3's
And rack up assists. And rebound the ball. And force turnovers through good defense. And not turn the ball over much. And he was a good 3 point shooter, not a chucker as you claim.
Collison can penetrate wit his quickness. nd Brand is a solid player who can get u sumthin like 10 & 6 off da bench
I never said Collison and Brand weren't solid players. But they aren't great, either. They are slightly above average. But Mayo and Kaman are far enough below average to more than cancel out those contributions. Dirk is still a great player but we don't know when he will show serious signs of aging. The rest of their team is mediocre.
nd da Rockets? rofl they got a hell of a lot worse dis past season. they choked away a playoff spot last year wit a betta roster. Rockets wont be nowhere near da playoffs let alone betta then da mavs. Nd u rite i retract my statement on mavs competing for top 5 but they'll be in da playoffs
You are right. I had a look at the Rockets roster, and apparently I missed some of the trade news this off-season because I thought they had some completely different players than they actually do. In any case, I still think the Utah Jazz and Grizzlies will be better than the Mavericks (or at least not significantly worse, which means they will be battling for 6-8 seeds), and I think the T-wolves will improve enough this season to content for a playoff spot as well.
(As I said before, the Mavs probably will make the playoffs, but I think the regression of their roster combined with the improvements made to other Western teams means they have a decent chance of being bumped out. The West only has two elite teams (50+ wins), but has a wide field of good teams (40-50 wins). I think the Mavericks will be at the low end of 40.
