I am kinda curious if the team is planning the overseas trip because of all the new faces and rookies with the hopes that we can mirror the 2008 success with a new group.

There's no doubt it will help the team bond more than your average NBA training camp experience, and that is a great thing no matter how you slice it.

Wonder if KG buys the rooks those slick Italian suits again?

That'd be cool.

It would be very cool. I am trying to remember who he bought for in 2008. Anybody remember? Actually only KG, Rondo and Pierce are left from that roster if I am correct.

Did KG buy Rondo a suit?

I don't think the bonding itself is enough to win a ring, but I go with this

But it will sure push us further in that direction.

Look, I know I am a Homer with green tinted glasses who drinks the green koolaid. Still, we have arguably a much more talented, healthy and deeper roster with only the loss of Ray as adverse. Any physchological ploy to promote teammwork and comraderie should be welcomed and likely effective. The only way it is not is if we have hidden headcase that ruins the lockerroom.

I think it will have very little influence on anything.

The core of the team KG, Bass, Rondo, Pierce, Bradley, Dooling, and Wilcox were all together last year and Green has been around most of those guys for 1 1/2 years.

I think its a pretty tight group already and Terry, Lee and Collins are fairly well known good "team" guys.

For me, it will be hard to quantify or justify any results.

I suspect the 'reason' is purely marketing strategy.

Just curious, do you think it made any difference in 2008?

This is completely different than 2008. In 2007 a bunch of young players were thrown out there and had one of the worst seasons in Celtics history. Some of those young players stayed but most of the core that won that championship were brand new to the team and each other. KG, Ray, Posey, Davis, Pollard, Pruitt and House were all new to the team with five of those guys being amongst the top 9 rotation players for most of the year.

This time around not even one starter is being replaced. And clearly, 6 of the top 9 rotation players have been on this team and played together and been around each other. They weren't awful last year like in 2007. They were one win away from a Finals trip.

In 2008 the European bonding and the job Doc did then and when he got them back to the states, made a huge difference. Now, this year, this is just a preseason trip, IMHO.

It will do good, especially for camaraderie and team bonding. Its also going to be a great experience for the rookies to travel and see the world and help them appreciate what they have and realize what more can they get if they work hard.

Hope they play some local pro teams along the way, just to be ready.

I think this is definitely a benefit, but really, this is a business venture (for the league as much as the team).

These type of things can definitely help to bring teams together, but they also can be physically trying as well (although I think Doc knows how to handle that as well as any coach).

I am just excited, because I think it moved up preseason just a bit, compared to if they were just staying home.
