I've wanted Martin or Camby on the cheap the last few years.

Martin was pretty good for the clips this past postseason. At times he was playing crunch time instead of "injured/headcase" griffin. He's also still a pretty good rebounder/defender and is still intense, annoying and cheap to his opponents.

Man, I just remembered how much I hated Martin on the Nets. He wasn't a superstar, but he [dang] well played like one against us back ten or so years ago.

Doesn't change my newfound desire for him wearing a C's uniform, though.

I also hated Sheed before he was a Celtic, so there's that.

Actually, come to think of it, I hated Sheed as a Celtic too, hahahaha. (until the playoffs)
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

K-mart or birdman! i'd love it if the celtics get one more useful vet big man. sully's fine but i'm worried about relying on a rook for consistently productive minutes, and also, i thought the collins signing was very poor. k mart should fit right in the C's culture i think.

First, I love Sully.

Second, sign K-Mart! Half a season is perfect. It costs us less and Sully gets more minutes early. When the playoffs come and we need to shut people down on defense, KG and KMart up front would be crazy. KMart is a beast. KG + KMart + Bradley would be insane pick and roll defense. KMart is also a bit like a hockey goon. He is an enforcer. He will take you out.

Half a season also means less injury risk since he would presumably be healthy at that point, having avoided injury in the first half half of the season by not playing.

Also, imagine the trash talking of a Rondo, Terry, Pierce, KMart, KG lineup! What an unpleasant group to play against.

I think he would be an ideal counter-piece to Sullinger.  Doesn't kill the spacing when paired with Wilcox, and brings a lot more defense and energy off the bench.  It's dangerous relying on a rookie to instantly become a rotation player and a smart defensive vet of his caliber is the perfect insurance, especially come playoff.

Birdman should be the first choice.  More mobile and better shot blocker.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I would love to add Birdman instead and he is clearly the better player right now, but I think Danny/Doc dont wanna deal with his off courts "issues". I gotta trust their judgement.

If K Mart is healthy enough to give us 15+ on those gimpy knees for the vet min, I gotta sign him up. Just my opinion...  8)

I'll take K-Mart, because he's another big body to add. I would love to see him play along aside KG, especially with both their fiery energy.

Lebron would have a nervous breakdown and World Peace would get arrested for assault. Brawl at the Garden. I'd also love to see KG, Kmart and Bradley just giving up nuthin.

TP for that last sentence.  For some reason it made me laugh.  I feel the same way.  Lot of moxy in that line up that would be 'unpleasant' for the other team to deal with.

I like K-Mart as a player - I do really like the toughness and attitude he brings to the game, and as with the above comments I do think a Rondo/Bradley/Pierce/K-Mart/KG starting lineup would be an absolute nightmare for other teams to play against.

Looking at his advanced stats he's a slightly better rebounder and shot blocker then Bass, while he's a much more capable scorer in the paint - something we really could use.

Martin also also gives us a pure defensive presence at the PF forward position, and that's something we don't really have right now. We have Bass, Sulinger, Wilcox and Green as our primary PF candidates, and neither of those guys is really known for their interior defense.

The only problem I see with the signing is depth - or more specifically, too much of it.  Even if we use Wilcox as our promimary back up at C and Martin as a primary backup PF, that pretty much eliminates Sulinger's hope of getting playing time.  It also limits Green's potential playing time to ~20 MPG as a backup to Peirce, as you can be sure Doc initially wanted him to spend some time at PF.

Still, in recent times Doc and Ainge have always been of the mindset 'you can never have too much talent', so I would not be surprised at all if they pick up Martin given the opportunity. It would give us the flexibility to have two big men injured and STILL have one of the deepesst frontcourts in the NBA.

Initially the depth issue concerned me (too many players at PF) but the more I think about this deal the more I like it - I really think KMart (along with Collins) would help to give Boston some of that 'enforcer' mentality that they lost with Perkins, and that's something I'd love to see!

It's hard to imagine Kmart signing in LA where he'd clearly be a third string PF behind Gasol and Jamison.  In Boston he'd likely back up Bass as the first PF off the bench, and should get a consistent ~10 MPG or more.

I'm more concerned about him hitching a ride to Miami where he could potentially start at PF (alongside Bosh) and give Miami some much needed toughness and inside presence...that's exactly what they need to take them to another level, and I would hate to see him go there!!

The Celtics have unrestricted FA Kenyon Martin "on the radar", according to MSG Network's Alan Hahn.
The Knicks have been targeting Martin with the veteran's minimum, but K-Mart has been "steadfast" in his stance that he won't accept that. Hahn notes that "a few teams" are keeping tabs on Martin, and it's worth noting that Boston still has its bi-annual exception available.

Kenyon Martin - F - Clippers
Updating a previous item, the Celtics are unlikely to sign unrestricted FA Kenyon Martin.
Beat writer A. Sherrod Blakely classified the odds as "slim to none," and he's a reputable source of information for all things Celtics. Although the C's have the bi-annual exception available, it doesn't seem like K-Mart will be shipping up to Boston.

Sherrod Blakely = reliable? Sure, after he gets a retweet from woj, spears, or any of the ESPN guys he retweets it. I can go that too.

Haha.  Yeah, Blakely seems like a nice enough guy, but I wouldn't call him "a reputable source of information for all things Celtics".

Yeah.  Especially on twitter.  He is not the best at clarifying what is inside information, and what is just his own personal speculation.

To me, this sounds like his own personal speculation.  He later tweeted that the C's are not in a situation with their cap to be able to afford Martin or Terrance Williams.  So, I am guessing he is speculating that both of those guys are looking for more than the minimum, which is why he does not seeing it happening.
