Pretty obvious but still nice to hear:

Quote
Garnett also shared a bit of information that was assumed, yet not confirmed, in the wake of his signing a three-year contract with the Celtics this summer: He intends to retire with the Celtics. "This is certain," Garnett said in response to a question about retiring in Boston.

the other report I saw said the contract has a no-trade clause that will guarantee him to retire as a Celtic when he turns 39

His new contract and Ray's method of departure seemed to clarify the whole number retirement question.

This makes me extremely happy. If he plays three years it will give him 8 in a Celtics' uniform. I'll take it. I would love for them to find a way to keep him around after he retires.

Tommy, Mike & Kevin?  The bleep machine would break, surely!
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Kevin Garrnet I watched since he was rookie , he was that amazing to me.  Always so focused and determined... just like the Celtic greats, never say die. Danny bringing him to Boston was a dream come true for this NBA fan.

To bad Allen decided to go to he Cheat and leave the team he achieved the greatest moments of his life playing for. .. so depressing.

omfg that's literally my new dream. TOMMY: "That's a Tommy point!!" KG: "Tommy, with all due respect, F**** THAT." MIKE: "Oh."
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

KG is my all-time favorite basketball player (sidebar: I don't count Larry Bird and Bill Russell, though I adore both, simply because I've been alive long enough to see KG's entire career. That's the only thing that gives KG the edge over older players), and was before he even came to Boston. The fact that he came to Boston, won a ring, and now plans to retire with the organization is a dream come true, for me, otherwise my favorite team and favorite player wouldn't be associated with each other!

Also, although it would be VERY fun to hear KG's commentary, I would be interested to see him try his hand at coaching. He has proven that he is an extremely intelligent player who understands the psychology of the game better than anyone else, and has a history of (at least on the defensive end) making everyone better. I think he has the potential to be a very special coach in this league.

If KG completes this contract it will mean a career of 12 years in Minnesota and 8 years in Boston.

But more importantly, he played in 47 playoff games in Minnesota and has already played in 78 playoff games in Boston (in just 4 seasons as he was injured in 2008-9). Hopefully, he'll be well over 130 playoff games as a Celtic when all is said and done.

It is amazing to think that after all he did as a member of the 'Wolves' that he's likely to be remembered as a Celtic.

Great news  ;D

I am really looking forward to seeing how he does with mentoring our young bigmen the next couple of years. He definitely has the knack for it. I just hope we keep Melo and Sullinger so they can get the full benefit. Someone should be keeping notes, they would make a terrific book someday.  Hint Hint ;)
