Sorry, Thibs, but Scals is back where he belongs!

from RealGM wiretap:

"Brian Scalabrine has decided to accept a color analysis and studio job with Comcast Sports New England instead of a coaching position with the Chicago Bulls.

Scalabrine will provide color analysis for 11 games of the Boston Celtics.

"A trial run for both of us," Scalabrine said."

Ha!  No way!  I did not see that coming.  I guess a analyst job is a little more laid back and fun compared to the trials of being an NBA assistant coach...can't blame him for that.

That says a lot.  I'd figure 99% of players would rather be involved in the game/league than talk about it.

Somewhat surprised we didn't offer him a job.  Maybe no room for him?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If Scal wants to be a head coach in the future, maybe working one's way up to a national announcing/commentary gig is better than slaving away on the bench as an assistant.

Exactly.  There's more money on TV in the meanwhile, for much less of a grind.  And hey, he'll have fun with it.

And HEAD coaches get those hard working assistants for a reason: they're busy managing the media and personalitites.  Scal's warming up to go straight to the big chair, like Doc and Mark Jackson (more recently).

A Tommy replacement?  He sure beats Donnie.

Tommy's not going to work forever, unfortunately.  There's a long-time gig to be earned; if Scal does well, he could theoretically be settling himself into a job for the next twenty years.

And while I know Mike and Tommy are on road a ton and have to do a lot of work, it's got to be an easier life than slugging it out as an assistant coach.  If Scal's only going to be going out on the road a couple times a year, maybe there's a lifestyle decision at work here; maybe he wants to be able to settle down.  Assistant coach, unless your name is Dante Scarnecchia you don't really have ANY job security.

I sure hope Donny is leaving.  We need a Celtic in there and Scal had a longer career than Donny.  I get a sense Scal is family.  I don't get that with Donny.

I'm excited about Scal. I liked when he filled in last year because he would get into what players/teams were doing and how they were doing it. He'll be a cult hero around Boston and the guys on the team respect him so they'll probably say things to him they wouldn't to others.

Donny's going national eventually. He took a big step by doing the Olympics. I don't dislike the guy, I just think he's more of a fan of basketball than a fan of the Celtics. I want to my announcers to care about the team and be a part of it.

I agree - I want my announcer to love my team.  Glad to see Scal is coming back and I am praying that Donny is leaving real real soon.  I sometimes MUTE the games because of Donny's voice and attitude - I've hated him for years.
