The Brooklyn Nets are on course to sign power forward Andray Blatche by week's end, according to sources close to the process.

Released in July by the Washington Wizards via the amnesty process, Blatche told HoopsWorld.com on Wednesday that he hopes to have a signed contract with a new team in a day or two.

Two sources close to the process told ESPN.com that Blatche is on course to sign with Brooklyn this week.

ESPNNewYork.com's Mike Mazzeo reported over the weekend that Blatche, according to sources with knowledge of the Nets' plans, would not receive a guaranteed contract.

I think he might do well, or destroy their locker room. Hopefully the latter

Brooklyn needed a big.  Not sure this will work out, though.  Can he change his attitude?  Will he accept his role?  I don't know.

Andray Blatche - F/C - Nets
Updating a previous item, Andray Blatche's deal with the Nets has not been finalized, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post.
Lee added that two sources close to Blatche said the forward has "yet to make a decision and is also considering an offer from the Miami Heat." This conflicts with Marc Spears' earlier report that Blatche and the Nets have agreed in principle. Both Lee and Spears are two of the most credible sources in the business, so check back for updates on this story.

Nets aren't a serious contender until they can get a legit big to protect the rim. Getting Howard would have made them clear cut favorites to win it all. Lopez, Humphries and Blatche are all pretty poor defenders.

This is a two way street.

On one, we're talking NYC, and if he can host Lap Dance Tuesdays on DC, he can sure as heck do so in New York, heck even better. Which makes this signing a really poor decision.

On the other, if he's focused and realized this is his final shot, a decent Blatche can average 12 and 6 on 20 at least minutes. Sure he's poor on defense but you can't deny that production on limited time. And that will make this a good signing.

This is a "will see" signing. Obviously the talent is there, as well as the baggage. This is a very risky move by the Nets.

Just me.

Terrible signing. Andray Blatche, Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries each bring out the worst in one another. Dysfunctional big man rotation will be Brooklyn's downfall.

I called Net, Heat, Spurs, Philly for Blatche.  He's a good fit for all those teams, but I think he can steal minutes from Lopez if the Nets find an effective small ball lineup...oh and if he has truly mended his work ethic and adjusted his attitude.

I disagree in a way. It really depends on how he will handle himself this time. If he's back to that 16 ppg/8rpg 48% FG guy without the baggage, this'll be a good signing. It could also make Humphries trade-able for whatever they could get that would help them.

@DrayBaltche has a solid mid range game that would compliment Brook's low post game. Both would be terrible defensively though, but then again, Humphries is not known for his defense either. Atleast Blatche can do more things offensively. But again, depends on how his attitude will be. Besides, it's for a non-guaranteed minimum. I think it's not a terrible signing at all.

Marc Stein tweeted that the Nets were in the 'pole position' to land Blatche. Found that pretty enjoyable

I really was kind of hoping he'd go to an organization that could get him on the straight and narrow like the Spurs.  Part of me wants him to figure it all out and reach his potential, I don't see that happening in Brooklyn.
