I've had random anxiety all of my life with singing, I'm curious, how do I sound exactly, just recorded this. I'd rather honesty than being "nice"

Not great. Heard worse though.

Have you taken any lessons? If you really love making music, try getting a vocal coach.

Regardless what anyone says or how you feel, keep practicing.

Good luck.

Been playing music all my life.  Singing makes or breaks a band. I'm very critical.  My opinions are.   You did ok for a basically not very challenging song. TRy singing a REAL female singers song , old school and you'll see how rare a good vocal is.  At the moment you don't have a great range , the highs efforts are fair , the lows really weak and out of sorts ( you ran out of your range)

Most people are lucky if they can have a backup vocal voice. , much less a range and projection required to be a lead singer.

IF you can play an instrument AND SING , you will build you confidence and skill quicker.  You can play the song s in a key that allows you the best chance of hitting it.

Peoples voices do change with age and people do learn and can improve their singing.  It takes a TON of WORK and practice to "HIT" the details of fine song by an accomplished singer.

Most new singers today run out of talent trying to step into the shoes of the great singers from the past.

My problem is sustained power . After about 5 songs , my voice fades and the range drops off ;D. Projecting well though 30 songs is hard on the old vocal cords. ;D

Learn an instrument , hear the notes and learn to sing them .

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd give you a 5 or 6 out of 10.
You have some okay moments but your pitch is way out of tune.
Try singing without headphones on so you can hear yourself.
The biggest mistake people make is listening to the song they're trying to sing (whilst singing), and they get comfortable without adjusting their own tune to the songs tune.
Keep working, you have potential. Get a vocal coach but lots of people will laugh at your voice in all honesty. Those same critics would never have the balls to try and sing though.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This, for the most part ... you actually have really nice texture and tone, but you're off-key a lot of the time. I don't think it's a matter of you not being able to recognize it, but rather not hearing it correctly. I think Chambers is correct in suggesting you use headphones, but I disagree just slightly as I don't think you're listening to the key of the music enough, or matching your voice to it.

Not sure what your mix is, but the music is WAY too soft here, and it's going to be difficult for you to sync your voice to the key of the song if the music itself isn't prevalent enough. Try and get a good balanced mix in your headphones, with your voice clear and easy to hear, but at least some element of the music loud and clear enough as well, so you can hear both and sync the keys up.

Don't worry too much about texture and style yet, cuz you've got a basic amount of that already and it will develop naturally, but work for now on staying on key and training your ear to recognize the difference. Whatever you do, don't get discouraged or let critique get you down, you've got some natural talent, but you just need to start with the basics and the rest will come.

Keep up the good work ... there are thousands of people with talent who never stick with it or give it the time it needs, or who get discouraged because they take constructive criticism personally. You've got to have some thick skin in this business, but you also have to put in many, many hours of hard work and practice, and learn to be good enough to know when you're not being good enough.

Music is the language of the soul, and whatever else happens, it will bring you joy and happiness at the very least ... if you're willing to commit to it, any rewards beyond that are just icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing ... and always keep your ears open. ;)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd say dont start a band, but don't give yourself a heart attack over signing up for karaoke at one of those bars that don't take it super serious.

I can't sing a lick but I do it anyways cuz its fun, and if people don't like it, well screw them.

That's my best take.

I used to sing and teach voice. You're nowhere near where you want to be, but from what I heard last night, most of it was a bunch of bad habits that were correctable. No offense, because I thought your voice was pretty good, but I think you're lost on how to use it.

I'd recommend a book called "Set Your Voice Free" by Roger Love
It's a book from 2003, but it's not like how we sing has changed, so the information holds true, and you should be able to pick up used copies for a couple of bucks. You might want the CD that comes with it though, it's got a bunch of tracks that you can use to practice with the author, like a private lesson. Even as new, it should be somewhere around $10, but it's worth a lot more than that.

He goes over a lot of misconceptions and gives tons of good information and advice. His writing is easy to understand and very encouraging, and from my experience using some of his exercises for myself and my students, I can vouch it's very effective.

Don't stress so much about what other people might think if they hear you. It usually makes you sound worse than you really are, and makes you form a lot of bad habits subconsciously.

If you're really worried, or you don't have a good place to practice, get a thing of Pringles, poke some holes in it at the bottom with a screwdriver, and stuff some tissues in it. It's cheap and does a surprisingly good job of absorbing a lot of the sound.

I hope this helped, good luck!
