With the present roster there is an excellent chance at the All Star break or Trade Deadline that we will need that final piece to get us over the hump and into the playoffs. I would not make any trade that didnt obviously adress a need and provide help for the team.

Who will be the most expendable piece(s) due to positional redundancy?

I think most likely that it will be Avery Bradley and Brandon Bass, with a slim possibility of Chris Wicox. This would necessitate that they are playing well and reasonably healthy so as to have some value.

With the addition and possible quick development of Jared Sullinger, I could say goodbye to Bass. With Courtney Lee and the Jet, it is also inevitable that Bradley will be made available.

I think that Jeff Green will be playing so well we cant trade him. ;)

why?  C's will make the playoffs with this roster without breaking a sweat.  I think it's presumptive to assume they'll need another piece without having seen how they've played a game yet.

They very well may need another piece but this team as constructed is pretty solid.  Other than a true starting center, this team is incredibly deep and complete in terms of the volume of rotation-quality players.  If Sully pans out, I don't see them pulling the trigger on any deals considering they have all the primary pieces signed for 3 years.

You've Rajon Rondo, Courtney Lee and Jason Terry signed for multiple years.  And Dionte Christmas' potential as a shooter/scorer off the bench is intriguing.  So, you've to consider Avery Bradley as the odd man out long term.  Especially, if you consider that he's seemingly injury prone and Ainge, reportedly, did attempt to trade him before the trading deadline.  Of course, Bradley stepped up in the second half of this season once he was moved to the off guard position.  It depends, Ainge has admitted that he regretted not resigning Tony Allen before he'd signed with Memphis.

Potential trade bait could be Bradley, Brandon Bass or Jeff Green (is he a future amnesty candidate?)

Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee as expendables. Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo as sweetners. And/or future firsts.

Avery Bradley only gets put on the table if a verified All-Star caliber is coming the other way.

I heard that teams were inquiring about Bradley, not that Danny tried to trade him. He'd have no trouble at all trading Bradley if he wanted to.

The statement that we are pretty solid is true. I am raising the possibility that we could have an opportunity to add a top level talent or a top 5 draft choice with the extra depth pieces we have at the PF and Guard positions without hurting ourselves.`You know Danny will be listening.

Teams have firesales all the time. We are rarely in a position to take advantage of them but we certainly will be this year. The fact that we have some talented guys locked up for reasonable contracts is going to be even more appealing.

I think Jeff green is the extreme or exception. He will either justify the money Danny paid him with a terrific season or he will be untradeable. Just my opinion.

Why would we need to make a trade, i think the roster is pretty well set. Unless we can make a giant splash with a big name all star I dont see us doing much.

I could see bradley, bass or green, with fab or sully and a future first for a josh smith type or another huge impact all star.

The only thing I could think of would be to improve size at the 4, but a KG, Wilcox, Collins (and Melo?) rotation would fit the bill for size, so we're okay there.

It's pretty amazing, but there's no question that Danny should get exec of the year for putting this roster together.  We're solid at every spot, with youth and veterans at every spot, and the pieces all fit together perfectly.  We have multiple allstars starting (Rondo, Pierce, KG) and several 6th man candidates off the bench (JET, Green) with made-to-fit role players around them.

Pretty awesome.

I think the team as currently constituted can make the playoffs and contend.

I do think, however, that Danny is slowly starting to accumulate his "chips" again, and that he'll try to go for another big trade at some point (maybe not this year -- just depends on when the oppty arises). By "big trade" I mean truly big, as in the trade that brought KG here. I think Danny would love to get Chris Paul to Boston, and Rondo would obviously need to be included in any such trade.
Celtics fan for life.

This refers to what I'd heard on the local sports talk radio station.  A comment was made that Ainge couldn't give Bradley away leading up to the trading deadline.  Then, Bradley established himself as a possible keeper in the second half which prompted me to believe that he could be traded during this off-season.  Obviously, none of this came to fruition.  But I don't think that he's untouchable.

I must have read too much into it.  It was unofficial and unconfirmed.

thanks for the clarification.  I can see where you're coming from.  The downside could be some chemistry issues if a big trade happens.  Add in that most of the projected trading pieces signed here as FAs, that could negatively impact the desire of other FA's to sign here.

Excellent point about the chemistry issue. That is something that I am sure Doc and Danny would watch closely before adding a player. Especially since it may have cost us Ray Allen if the Rondo rumors are true.

Cman made the point earlier better than I could about Danny gathering chips again like he did before the KG trade. I dont know if the target is Chris Paul or not, but that is the type of scenario I think would be possible.
