My strategy will be a bit different here than it was in the last round, here is my rotation for this series

 playoff rotation

C:  Duncan (35)/ Dalembert (13)/ Hollins (garbage)
Pf: West   (40)/ Allen ( 8 )/
SF: Mbah a Moute (whenever Granger is on the court)/ Hill (approx 15 min or when Granger is out of the game)/ CJ Miles ()
SG: Kobe   (38)/ George Hill (10) / CJ Miles ()
PG: George Hill(28)/ Jason Kidd (20)/ Reggie Jackson ()

Basically, we are going to have Mbah A Moute shadow granger this entire series.  Paul will do his thing, we know that.  History has shown that when both Paul and Hill are playing starters minutes Hill can do a pretty good job on keeping him in check so im ok with that matchup.

Also we are going to see some Lavoy Allen this series, he is a bigger body who can get some offensive rebounds and knock down some jumpers.  I am expecting similar things from him in this series to what we saw him put up against us in the philly series this year.

Also, I think there will be some siuations where Detroit goes small in which case we will respond with

C: Duncan/West (depending on if duncan needs a blow)
PF: Mbah (covering Granger who im guessing will be at the PF spot)
SF: Kobe
SG: Hill (But defending the PG spot)
PG: Kidd (Defending the 2 guard)

So I did out the numbers from the past 6 matchups where both Paul and George hill played starters minutes, and it looks like this

Paul: 33.19 mpg, 21.16 ppg, 4.16 rpg, 7.16 apg, on 45.4% shooting
Hill: 27.22 mpg, 11.33 ppg, 3 rpg, 4 apg, on 49.4% shooting

That wasnt really the bloodbath that I was expecting.

The advantages I think I have

Kobe over matthews
Duncan over Nene
West over Ilyasova offensively

Advantages I think Detroit has

Paul over Hill
Granger over Mbah, though Mbah can hold him pretty decently I think
Ilyasova over west offensively  (not sure I love the idea of west being dragged out to the perimiter all time time by ilyasova)
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

I don't think I have much argument with these assessments. I am hoping that Wes and Fields can combine to make Kobe work a little. We'll also tap Kmart for rotation minutes versus Duncan, also to make things more uncomfortable for him.

I would be very interested to see the numbers for the matchups for the starting five, if possible. Relying on a phone right now, or I would check it out.

Cp3 does look like a pretty decent advantage for us. Points and assists-wise.

Matchup numbers would be an interesting starting point.

Honestly though most of the matchups are tough becuase

Nene and duncan havent played eachother in a little while, Ilyasova just became a full time player recently so most of the numbers don't mean anything, Matthews vs kobe is the same issue, and hill vs paul is the same issue.  Thats why i went out and did those averages for the games where they both played starters minutes

I think the Hawks are having really lousy luck with their matchups in this year's playoffs.

The two PGs (Rondo, C.Paul) who can best exploit their bigs lack of (high level) mobility / team defense ... to draw one and then the other in the first two rounds is very bad luck. Tough draw.

I see what you mean but I think Hill and Duncan have been able to play against Paul effectively enough to prevent the spurs from getting torched, I think I can do it here.

I think Nene and Duncan + Ilyasova and David West are neutral matchups.

I don't think Ilyasova can defend West or West Ilyasova. I think they'll both end up putting up big numbers against one another.

I think Nene can defend Duncan fairly well. I think Duncan will struggle with the Nene/CP3 combination in the pick and roll and that Nene will get a lot of joy there. In more one-on-one situations (post ups, face ups), I think Duncan can defend Nene reasonably well. So I would give Nene the edge in offense/defense (due to D'Antoni and CP3) but I think Duncan makes up for that with his superior rebounding and renders the matchup neutral.

Seems like the Pistons have the bigger talent disparity advantages with Granger and Paul, while the Hawks have the advantage in quantity with Duncan, West, and Kobe.

I like that Hawks frontcourt a lot more as a combo.  Duncan-West just sounds like a good fit.  Nene-Ilyasova I'm not sold on.
