It's funny, the guys on D&C were in almost unanimous agreement that although Auerbach did build the Celtics, Pesky devoted nearly every minute of his life during a 60-year period to the Red Sox.
They also said, interestingly, that Pesky was exactly who Joe Paterno wanted to be viewed as. A wise, loveable old man who mentored from one generation to the next.
That kind of moronic sports take is what they have to resort to now for "shock" ratings to try to pry listeners away from 98.5.
D&C have been awful for years, they had been coasting on the "we are so much smarter than our listeners, its ridiculous. You don't like our out dated format and politicizing every story? tough cookies, we're all you got in the mornings." and then got hammered when 98.5 came along and went the "how bout we actually treat callers like a part of the show and make people laugh in the morning?"
D & C's awfulness aside, I don't see how one player who, as much as I respect him, had a above average career (albit cut short by the war, and his service in that conflict is worth 10 times his contribution to the redsox, god bless him for it.) and a few unsuccessful coaching stints do not compare to a man who built a team that would win multiple titles in across decades, broke the color barrier in the NBA, and mentored the next generation in his waning years.
No disrespect intended to pesky, but red ment far more than he did and accomplished more as well.
