  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Still waiting. Any more rumors or speculative articles other than realgm posts with insider info?
When's the latest we should know by?
Help me sweet Jesus.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Trade him for Josh Smith.
Trade him for Calvin Johnson, John Ferrell, and a bag of kettle chips. Oh, and a case of beer.

Why the Celtics are spending so much time on this is beyond me. Why couldn't they just say goodbye to Green and sign Delfino and Birdman???

I've never seen another team waste so much time on a player the way the Celtics have with Jeff Green. You'd figure they were pursuing Michael Jordan

1)  Green is the better player.

2)  They have no cap space, but the bird rights to Green.

Can't they offer vet minimum and BAE? Wouldn't that be enough to sign those two? I would say yes. Too much is being made about "cap space."

Delfino signed with Houston.

Anderson is rumored (not holding my breath on that one) to have been offered 5 million a year.

Still doesn't address that Green is the better player.

Not to mention, this isn't holding anything else up.

Green would start on probably 10 NBA teams. Agree with you, wdleehi. Green >>>>> Delfino and Andersen (if we could even get them in the first place).

Just to add some additional FYIs that (hopefully) will clip some recurring posts:

3) Green was not on the roster at the end of the season so he cannot be traded until Dec 15.

4) The one person who has the biggest motivation to delay the signing the most is Danny - and this has _nothing_ to do with whether he _wants_ Green any less.  Danny still has the BAE and vet minimum tools with which to possibly sign another player - heck even if it is only to bring in someone to training camp on an unguaranteed contract.   Even the latter could require a few hundred thousand of salary on the books for this coming season.   The numbers aren't official yet, but it is believed that while we are over the cap, that we are just barely below the Luxury Tax threshold.   This is an important number because things get very expensive if we go over it.   Danny probably wants to optimize how Green's salary pays out over the life of the contract with two opposing motivations:  A) If he pays him a little less now, then he has more room this year to make mid-season moves and still stay under the threshold.  B) If he pays him a little more now, then Green's cap hit in the future years is less.

So Danny probably wants to delay as long as possible committing one way or the other until he has a good idea on whether he wants to try to bring in someone like Anderson with the BAE.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Because he's a better player and a better fit than both of these guys.

I think they're not worried about cap space because they're so far over it. Jeff Green is a multi-million a year player. The vet min/BAE players...are vet min/BAE.

Pretty sure we'll see at least five threads in the forum about it if there is any legit news about Green.

Updating a previous item, Jeff Green and the Celtics are close to finalizing their deal and it should be official next week, according to Jeff Green's agent David Falk.
Green and the Celtics verbally agreed to a reported four-year, $36 million deal in July. The Georgetown product's surgery on an aortic aneurysm kept him from action for the entire 2011-2012 season, but earlier reports this month had Green feeling "awesome." It'll be one of the feel-good stories to watch for the upcoming NBA season.
