How about Bass and Bradley for Varejao and a pick of some kind?
How about no?

If a big man is really an issue, I still like Green for Varejao around the trade deadline.

Really???? Who is our backup 3, Kris Joseph?

A better question is, why am I posting in this thead?

Is kenton martin still available? I thought he was pretty good for that half season with the clips. He's an agitator, decent defender and can still rebound.

He's not ideal but I would take him over a lot of other guys

The Celtic use Lee and if need be, make another smaller move to fill in a couple minutes.  (possible moving Bass for a back up SF.

Again, this is if the Celtics look like they need another quality big.  (based on play on the court)

Varejao, Smith, Al Jefferson are all probably available.

But, I think the best thing for the Cs is to sit tight and see how things go. As usual, I suspect Danny will be in the mix come the February deadline. With many of the players on short contracts, and with some of the youth we've got, I imagine Danny will be looking into trades either at the deadline or next summer.

He's basically slowly building back the stable of tradeable assets so that he can swing for the fences again (like he did with KG and RA). But patience is necessary.

Yeah, true this.

People are trying to rationalize not moving our newly signed players, by stating it would be unfair and a PR hit.  Maybe for Lee or Green, because of their specific situations, but that would last only until next summer.  You get 1 year, at most, to prove yourself.

Personally, I think the plan Danny has in mind is clear as day.  It's just like you said, Danny is stacking chips.  These chips ARE going to be traded.  It's just a matter of when, and for who.  One all-star level or higher player is much more valauable than a stable of role players.

So people really wouldn't trade Bass for Varejao?

Sure we'd have to throw in a guy like Sully or Melo, but I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Varejao would give us substantially improved rebounding and defense next to KG.  Would also allow KG to not see quite as many minutes at center.  Either could be the center depending on match-ups.  Green would get a lot of time at PF as well.

"Bass for Varejao" is not going to happen -- as you pointed out, there has to be young talent thrown in. At which point the deal is more about the young talent than about Bass.

And I don't think people are ready to give away up and coming players for a 30 year old center with injury history.

If it appears during the season that the Celtics need another big man, then yes, I want the Celtics to trade for a big man.

Sideshow is better then the players being mentioned for him.

I think Cleveland might trade him for Green because they don't have that young SF but they have young C and PF.

I'd love Varejao on this team - he'd go a long way towards boosting our weakest area: offensive rebounding.

Problem is Cleveland seems to value him extremely highly.  Maybe back to back injury-plagued seasons have put a dent in their asking price.

If they'd take Bass, Melo, and a second round pick, I'm more than ready. Varejao is a 10-and-10 guy, and would significantly lighten the burden placed on KG.
