Shaq at that time was far superior to Dwight at any time. Shaq could play D, could rebound, decent passer and had some post moves that didn't require him to plow through his defender (all of the time).
What makes Shaq even better as a player is he had something Dwight doesn't have (at least not yet) and this is the ref's devotion to swallowing their whistles as he steamrolled over his man to get to the hoop or when he shuffled his feet on offense or slammed into someone driving to the hoop when he went for a 'block' or when he went over a defender's back to get and offensive board (or just outright shoved the man out of the way).
Until Dwight gets that kind of ref-love, he won't be able to carry Shaq's jock strap
