its not really truly worse than what we have expected the weird part is that Orlando got nothing.

I don't like it. Its just obvious its what we've thought for a year and a slap in the face that Orlando did such a dumb trade. We aren't any worse for this its just that we know we had a better package for Orlando too.

At least they had to give up an almost-as-good center to get him. The Lakers are one of a handful of teams that can get someone like Howard on the open market.

Orlando lost their star center twice to LA...how does that feel?

It's easy to sound like I'm overreacting to the addition of Dwight Howard, but really this is just a delayed response to the signing of Nash... and even slightly a reaction to Antawn Jamison.  Collectively, that team is absolutely dominant on paper.  The best shooter in the world (Nash) who absolutely solves their playmaking problems... the best big man in the world and three time defensive player of the year (Dwight) stepping in to clean up any defensive mistakes a guy like Nash makes...  Ugh.  Just a bummer as a Celtic fan to see the Lakers in such beautiful shape.  And although Bynum was an excellent player... he's no Dwight Howard.  Dwight Howard is a top 4 player entering his prime.  Hate to see the Lakers land another franchise dominant top 5 player.  History has proven that you need an elite big man to win a title.  History also shows that you need a top 5 player to win a title.  The Lakers just assured themselves that they'll be a legitimate contender for the foreseeable future.

I still think we're better off with him on the Lakers than the Nets.

I really don't care that LA got Howard. I never wanted the guy. I do care that they got him and still have Pau Gasol too. That's what makes me mad.

Lakers fans have been drooling , begging, dreaming, ever since it was apparent Orlando was failing to be a serious contender.  From then on it was just matter of time.

To Howards credit , he resisted , went kicking and screaming not wanting to be a Laker for SOOOO long...its like the Lakers are Nazis...."WE HAVE WAYS of making you a LAKER" and you come LA ...you must !!! too funny....weird how the LAKERS refused to back down and GO AWAY and wouldn't take "NO" for an answer ...when he told them he didn't want want to play there.

It is almost like kidnapping, or stalking ...

Lakers kept stalking him like a bunch of sick ee's .

I agree probally better he is there than on the Nets .

Nothing against Howard , he couldn't help it, but I hope the Lakers fail miserably.........the Lakers deserve a huge dumptruck load of BAD karma over this one.   Dump Bynum who helped them to a banner and FORCE another guy to play for them that didn't want to be there.

Somehow all this just doesn't seem quite right.

Well I know the Genius of LA Management has kicked out our butts for decades. Aside from the short lived Big 3 Era. LA builds long term. Celts have no game plan for building a team. It's all patch work.

All the Banners and retired numbers hanging are History. In business it's what have you done for me lately. Celtics aren't running a business. More like AA meetings.

I can't get too upset about the Lakers end of the deal.  They gave up a really good player, a #1, and took on some (minor) salary.  In terms of trades for superstars, they paid about full value.  Grudging kudos to the Lakers for having the foresight to draft Bynum in the first place.

The Orlando return, though, is beyond puzzling.  They got a few mediocre prospects, a good but overpaid SG (when they already had Redick), and some late round picks.  Plus, they weren't able to shed their worst prospects.  Truly beyond comprehension.

How dumb does Orlando look now for not pulling the trigger at last year's deadline?  They could have gotten Brook Lopez (before he got paid), Kris Humphries' expiring contract, a lottery pick plus up to 3 other #1s, and could have dumped Turkuglu and other bad deals.  While that's nothing to write home about, it's a heck of a lot better than this crap sandwich.

Whoa, this post is way off-base.  Dwight Howard is a basketball player.  The Lakers are a basketball team.  They have every right to acquire him.  And do you personally know he never would have wanted to be a Laker?  Or did he and his agent leak that so that he would be dealt to his first choice, Brooklyn.  And once Brooklyn faded from the pack, the Lakers became his first option.

Dwight is a free agent at the end of the season.  He has free will to leave.  If he doesn't want to be a Laker, he won't be one.

How does the Lakers pursuit of Dwight differ from our pursuit of KG?  Didn't KG say he didn't want to play here and then we traded for Ray and continued to pursue him?  Didn't the Lakers trade for Nash and continue to pursue Deight?

I agree with every point you made here, well balanced and fair analysis.

The Magic also received a $17.8 million trade exception in this deal.  Does that change your opinion of the deal a little? What do you think they can get with this exception?

The Celts had some bad luck along the way but the reason "LA management kicked our butts for decades" is that Shaq wanted to play for them and didn't screw it up the way Howard did with the Nets.

Are you kidding me?! Did you forget who just won the NBA title? Not to mention dwight is the best big man in the league and he never won a title so please stop with the nonsense.

As far as im concerned the day the lakers become a problem is a good day for celtics fans because that means it will be celtics lakers finals. That's all you can ask for, a chance to win the ship. It won't be easy rather its LA or OKC. Until THAT happens tho the lakers are irrelevant as far as im concerned. They don't matter at all until the celtics beat the heat.
