Bynum is younger than DH. He has a healthier back thann DH. When you downplay the surgery to DH's back just remember it was back problems that finally ended Bird's efficiency as a basketball player. Basketball players especially post players have to take a lot of pounding in the paint, they also need a lot of back flexion and twisting to pivot and shoot the turnaround and hook shots. The lakers gambled a lot on DH's back. I know Bynum has suspect knees but the knees held up last season so only time will tell.

The reason I believe 76ers have the best center in the league is because Bynum shined in LA when he was the fourth option on offense with Kobe being the first second and third options. It is amazing that folks call Bynum a head case when the guy had to co-exist with Kobe Bryant the most moody superstar in recent history, especially when Bynum knew that the team should by now be HIS team.

With a new lease on life in Philly look for Bynum to shine as the number one option on offense, which will also uplift his defensive game. I really wish Bynum was a Celtic.

Glad he is out of LA. You cannot coach length.

dwight howard is not only the best center, but he is possibly the best player in the game. bynum isnt the best considering he refuses to play some games. he will probably sit out the entire year because hes no longer on a contender, he is that type of drama queen.

dwight is once in an era type player. hes the shaq of this generation. bynum will be forgotten in the history books of the nba, while dwight may have his jersey in the rafters in LA next to chamberlain and abdul-jabbar. thats the difference between drama queen and  Howard. If you cant see it, you have a blind hatred for dwight.

Well, I won't get too far into this debate, but I'll say these two things:

1) Bynum is very good and makes Philly better than just with Iggy.  But they also lost Williams and Brand this offseason.  I think the Sixers future potential is much better now, but they have a ways to go before they are contenders.  In the absolute best case scenario for them THIS YEAR, they become what Orlando was a couple of years ago: a top 4 team that really isn't good enough to win it it all.  That is a team we should be able to take care of.

2) I tend to think that Howard is better than Bynum, but I think the OP is right at the very least in the sense that it's closer than many people think.  Bynum is probably a better offensive player than Howard.  If that's the case, maybe we should calm down a bit about the Lakers.  I think Howard helps them, but probably less than most people think.  If they weren't guaranteed to win a title with Bynum there, they aren't guaranteed to win it with Howard.

Exactly, people are just overreacting as usual. Id put DW over bynum but not by THAT much.

sorry but thats incorrect. Howard is a special type of player. He's a HUGE beast who can literally run with rondo. can you say the same thing about bynum? heck no. bynum is a slow snail who is fat and doesnt even run back to play defense sometimes.

bynum may have a healthier back, but howard may have a healthier knee. although i think its harder to contain a healthy bynum than howard

its easy to contain a healthy bynum, just get a 10 pt lead  on his team and he'll give up for that game. that or make him play for a non-contender.

I can't disagree with this more.  DH maybe a bit better than Bynum, but his impact on the game is not that much greater.  With Bynum it comes down to motivation, if he is motivated and plays hard, he is a beast.

To me there is no way that DH is the best player in the game. He is way behind Lebron & Kevin Durant...a distant 3rd at the best.  DH doesn't have the game or intangibles that Shaq had in his prime.  He isn't a 'once in an era player'.
And no, I don't have massive hatred for Howard.

dwight howard is not only the best center, but he is possibly the best player in the game. bynum isnt the best considering he refuses to play some games. he will probably sit out the entire year because hes no longer on a contender, he is that type of drama queen.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Agree with the OP.

Howard is a top 2 defensive player in this game, but Bynum is the most dominant center in the game (his combination of offense and defense is better than Howard's).
I like Marcus Smart

They have the 2nd best C in the league.

What is unknown is if he is truly a franchise C.  There is only one proven franchise C in the league, and he just went to LA.

It's a shame Bynum has lost so much of his quickness and explosive athleticism. He was an athletic freak before the knee injuries robbed him of so much of his athleticism.

I thought Bynum was a better prospect than Dwight Howard. And Greg Oden was a better prospect than both of them. I hate injuries ... what a shame.

I think Nene is better. Lets see who is going to stay healthy the longest? Nene or Bynum

And he just had major back surgery.
