I and my friend from school (a Knicks fan, I know he's the "enemy" but we're all in this together against the Heat and Lakers here) were posting about how frustrated we were with the Dwight trade. Another friend of ours, a T-Wolves fan, posted this:

I find it amusing that you two are the ones complaining about this considering the Celtics started this trend (and got a championship out of it) and the only reason the Knicks haven't managed to put together a superteam is that they suck at life. At least you guys can go out and compete in the market for other big names. Whereas the T-Wolves have to get excited when we sign Brandon Roy and Greg Stiemsma.

I'd love to hear CB's thoughts on this. Why are we different than the Lakers and Heat? Are we different than the Lakers and Heat?

Honestly, that is what kind of annoys me about all of the Laker complaining.  And all the quotes about the NBA fixing games for the Lakers and HEAT.  The Celtics are much closer to the Lakers and HEAT in that regard than they are to the Wizards, Kings, Bobcats, etc....

It is like the rich kid complaining that the richer kid bought a new yacht.  It makes us look whiny and entitled, in my opinion.

We do have the most titles in this "fixed" league and a fair share of its Hall of Famers and superstars.  Warriors fans and Raptors fans should complain, not Celtics fans. Life is good.

In the Celtics case at least the Sonics go a #5 pic in Green, and Minni got Big Al. Orlando will get nothing but a slammed door in the face when Howard leaves town.

We're not any different from them except for the laundry.  That might sting but I believe it to be true for the most part.

And I really don't care.  I'd rather be a "Have" than a "Have Not" in the NBA.

Sorry, what do you mean by "the laundry?"

I see the kids point.

Boston could have it a lot worse.

But for a lot of us I think it's bc it's the Lakers. They're one title away from us and they never have to suck. They go from franchise guy to franchise guy and are always able to surround that person with other star players.

Fortune just always seems to be on their side and things always work out for them.

To be fair KG, Ray, and Paul is nothing like what LA has. LeBron is the best but James, Wade, and Bosh shouldn't be able to touch this unit.

The four Laker All-Stars are all at least top 7 at their position and they compliment each other incredibly well. Their starting five has the chance to be the greatest starting five ever.

Ever.

It's like Sox fans complaining about the Yankees.

Winning > Losing

If you've got to go out and get star players to win, then so be it.  That's the NBA now.  Blame Stern, blame MJ, blame Phil Jackson, blame the Celtics; it doesn't matter.  It is what it is.

You get the stars, then you play ball.  It's what happens on the court that really matters.

He means we are basically the same as them except we wear green and they wear purple (Lakers) or red (HEAT) or orange (Knicks).

When you form the list of "Haves" and "Have Nots", we are definitely on the list of "Haves".

The Lakers are clearly at the very top of the list of "Haves" but Boston is definitely on that list.

Bold. I guess we'll see how this all plays out. Are you thinking 70 wins?

They don't have any young legs (besides Dwight), have some injury concerns, and have poor depth.

This isn't a team built for back-to-backs and long road trips and things of that nature.

This is more of a playoff built roster than a regular season built roster.

I think OKC might outpace them in the regular season.

Hoping this goes the same route as Payton/Bryant/Malone/O'Neal.

No.  We aren't different. It's a point I keep making.  There's a growing sect of fools who legitimately believe David Stern rigs the lotto, rigs trades and rigs games.

Stop for a second.  Imagine this is true.  Imagine Stern does rig the lotto, rig trades and rig games.

Ok, ask yourself... why didn't he rig the Oden/Durant lotto in our favor?  Was it a mistake?  Did he mess up on his "fix"?  Doesn't having a relevant franchise in Boston help the league?? (CLEARLY the answer is yes, btw)

Now ask yourself... did Stern force the Timberwolves to trade us KG as a make-up for the botched 2007 lotto fix?  Did he force the Sonics to give us Ray Allen?

Now ask yourself, did Stern force the Pau Gasol trade so that Lakers vs Celtics would be relevant again?

Now ask yourself... did Stern rig the 2008 playoffs so that the most profitable matchup (Lakers vs Celtics) would happen?  Then, did Stern give us a ton of ref calls, help us come back from 20+ in the 4th quarter... and ultimately rig the finale so the Celtics would take Part 1 of a planned Laker/Celtics trilogy (that never happened, because Stern couldn't prevent our meal ticket from getting injured in 2009).  At the very least, he fixed some games so we'd meet the Lakers in 2010 and fixed some games so we'd push overwhelming favorite Miami Heat to 7 last year.    IF you're "in" on the league being corrupt, you can't pretend like a corrupt league hasn't been benefiting the Celtics.  Over the past 5 years we've been one of the league's premiere franchises... don't be hypocritical.  Don't be naive enough to believe the league practices "selective corruption" that doesn't impact their strategically important Boston franchise.

No. I do feel they have a chance, but I don't think so. I keep forgetting Mike Brown is the coach. Howard has to be healthy obviously, but looking at how much Nash can do with Kobe, Dwight, and Pau forces me to admit that this team has a chance at being all time great this season.
