Let's see...

Dwight Howard is now out of the Eastern Conference for good, assuming he stays in LA or eventually signs with Dallas.

Andre Iguodala is now out of the Eastern Conference for a few years.

The Magic suck.

Philly gets their franchise center who has yet to prove he can be a franchise center (though he's come close.)  In the process they give away the second best defensive wing in our conference who killed us in the playoffs last year.

How is this a bad thing?

You tell us!?  ;D

Bynum = or > Howard (when he keeps his head in it!), at least to me and then the reasons you posted. Can't wait for the season to start...

How is this a bad thing?

1.  The Lakers got better.  That's always a bad thing, especially when they only trail us by one title;

2.  The Sixers got better.  Iguodala is a great player, but this now opens up more time for Evan Turner, and more opportunities for Jrue Holiday.  Plus, they're adding the second best center in the NBA to their team;

3.  There's another "superteam" in the NBA now.  If we somehow get out of the East, we're likely to run into LA in the Finals.

I'll just quote myself:  "I imagine a lot of my fellow Celtics fans will be in denial about this... seeing as we have Courtney Lee and Jason Terry and all... but honestly this is nothing short of a total disaster for Celtic fans.  Steve Nash is the greatest shooter in the NBA and arguably still the best playmaker in the game... he's now the 4th best player on the Lakers.  That's sickening."

We could've faced the Lakers with Bynum instead of Howard anyway, I think, but like you say we still have to beat Miami. As always, health will be our main issue.

LA could have gotten out of the West with Bynum.  Now, they're substantially more likely to do so.

Howard is just a better, more dominant player than Bynum is.  He carried a mediocre Orlando team to the Finals.  In LA, I figure he'll be able to do the same thing, at least until the Lakers' older players fall apart.

And he's much more likely to be the core of a contender after Kobe/Gasol/Nash are done.

I'm not happy at all.

Oh and Philly got better  >:(.

I think our team is going to surprise a lot of people. We'll be pretty versatile. Have to stay healthy, though.

I think it would still be bad for the C's, the Lakers getting a MVP caliber guy can't be good.

But keeping Gasol...ugh...

100% right.  Barring injury, this is a total disaster.

Keeping Gasol is the thing that's killing me right now.

How is this a bad thing?
It made the Lakers the #1 team (frontrunner) heading into next season.

Someone Boston is very likely to have to go through to win the NBA Title.
