LeBron
Durant
Howard
Paul
Bryant
Nowitzki
Wade
Rose
Rondo
Westbrook

I like this the best. Find the Paul-Bryant decision most difficult. Howard too, for that matter... putting him third on nearly every list seems the most practical, but I don't know that he's "better" than Paul or Bryant. I'd prob make it Bryant-Howard-Paul... but I don't feel too strongly about it.

Find it hard to judge Rose right now, he was tending upwards... Westbrook too for that matter - no clue where he's going to go.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Lbj
Dwight
Paul
Wade
Dirk
Kobe
Westbrook
Love
Rondo
Rose

Griffin and KG were hard to leave off.

You missed Durant. Otherwise, nice list. Westbrook was a tough one for me to judge, I personally left him off the top 10 but I can't argue with his presence in yours. Legit choices all.

1. LBJ
2. KD
3. Dwight
4. Chris Paul
5. Kevin Love
6. Rose
7. Kobe
8. Wade
9. Melo
10. Rondo

If Rondo takes the next step he'll be close to top 5. But he hasn't shown the ability to consistently sustain a superstar level of play, which is what a top 5 player in this league has to do.

I like your inclusion of Carmelo.  I thought about him on mine and like him as a player more than most people do.  He was another tough call for me.

You're right. Durant after Howard, before Paul.

I don't know that he's "better" than Paul or Bryant.

Of course Dwight is better than Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant.  That's not even close to debatable.

What could you possibly be doing, giving extra credit for being able to face up on the perimeter and come out with a 40% shot?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

1. LBJ
2. Durant
3. Howard
4. Paul
5. Kobe
6. Dirk
7. Rondo
8. Rose (when healthy of course)
9. K-Love
10. Melo (great player and in his prime but attitude on the court and selfish play can hurt the team as much as his skills help)

A guy who I predict will make top ten lists next year:

For now, I'd say:

1. Lebron
------------
2. Durant
------------
3. Howard
4. CP3
------------
5. Wade
6. Kobe
7. Rose (if healthy)
7a. Dirk
------------------------
8. Kevin Garnett
9. Kevin Love
10. Tony Parker
I pretty much agree with Roy and like the tier idea... only thing I was iffy on was his inclusion of Tony Parker at #10. Good news is, Tony Parker is actually 11th on his list so it's sorta irrelevant.

I think most would agree the following 7 players make the top 10:

LeBron, Durant, Dwight, Cp3, Rose, Wade, Kobe

Hard to dispute those 7 in some order.  Beyond that, it's really easy to put Kevin Love up there... two years straight of being a top 3 player statistically:  26 points and 13 rebounds is pretty nice.  So that's 8.

I sincerely believe Pau Gasol is one of the top players in the game.  A lot of people disagree.  He was the key player on two title teams and as a 7 footer he's more important than most guards.

Dirk probably deserves consideration as well.  A year removed from leading a team to the top of the mountain.  That brings you to 10.

Beyond that, KG, Tony Parker, Blake Griffin, Melo, Deron Williams, Westbrook, Duncan, Pierce and MAYBE Bosh are arguably above Rondo on the list.  Portland fans would include LaMarcus Aldridge.  Laker fans would include Bynum.

I accidentally did a double post... so I'll fill it with the top 20 as determined by Bill SImmons in his annual "trade value" column from March:

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7666048/nba-trade-value-part-2

#1 - LeBron
#2 - Durant
#3 - Derrick Rose
#4 - Kevin Love
#5 - Blake Griffin
#6 - Dwight Howard
#7 - Dwayne Wade
#8 - Chris Paul
#9 - Kobe
#10 - Dirk
#11 - Kyrie Irving*
#12 - Russell Westbrook
#13 - Marc Gasol
#14 - LaMarcus Aldridge
#15 - Rondo
#16 - Tony Parker
#17 - Pau Gasol
#18 - Chris Bosh
#19 - Melo
#20 - Deron

*Note, it's a "top trade value" not "top players".  That means Irving goes way up the list and a guy like KG (super expensive contract last year and had yet to rejuvenate his career by carrying us from Feb-onward) doesn't even crack the top 50.

1.  LeBron
2.  Dwight
3.  Durant
4.  Wade
5.  CP3
6.  Rose
7.  Dirk
8.  Love
9.  Rondo
10. Gasol

I'd have Tim Duncan/KG in there still if they could go more minutes without getting gassed. Kobe just chucked too inefficiently for him to make it to the list. Those would be my next three, then probably Westbrook.

CP3/Rose are the sketchiest due to health concerns, CP3 plays less now and some games doesn't seem to have it anymore. Rose is obvious.

I am kind of shocked for all the love for Kevin Love. I just don't see how he can be included in the top yet when he's won nothing, been on bad team after bad team and never was able to make that team significantly better by himself.

He's a top 15 player for sure. He's not a top ten.
