  • KG IS THE KING
I base my Power Rankings on how teams finished last season and off-season moves:
Quote
1.Heat
2.OKC
3.Celtics
4.Spurs
5.LAL
5.LAC
6.Pacers
7.Grizzles
8.Nuggets
9.Sixers
10.Bulls
11.Knicks

No Brooklyn?
As it stands right now, Brooklyn won't be able to stop anyone on defense. They're right behind the Knicks, they've improved on D under Woodson.

I'm not all surprise of these rankings. They're assumption rankings that hold no merit. If they're ranking LAL and LAC over the Celtics, then there's a problem. I think the players games do better talking than the talking-heads at NBA.com, Yahoo, NBCSports, SI, SBNation, and CBSSports. lol

10.Bulls
11.Knicks

That's pretty much an exact match with how the teams finished after last season's playoffs.  So you basically think nobody improved and nobody got worse?

Power rankings are typically an individual opinion ranking to build discussion and interest, copying last year's playoff finish isn't overly insightful.

Aldridge has us at 7.

Funny, because on paper I think we at should at least be in the top 5.

Oh well...

This is strictly for offseason moves, not necessarily a power ranking.

Having the Sixers at #2 is mind-boggling to me. They basicalyl amnestied brand, retained Hawes, and signed a bunch of spare parts... mostly lateral moves, if not a step back.

LAL still have issues and will not be able to beat the Celtics. Outside of MIA and OKC don't see it. Clippers will give the C's trouble; but not in a playoff series.

These are the strangest Power Rankings I've seen so far. What's even worse about some of these power ranking is that they're from actual NBA employees. The bases behind some of the rankings are simply mind blowing. I wonder if John Schuhmann and David Aldridge are kicking back bottles of Absolut Vodka while creating these rankings?

Wow, I'm with you on that one.  To me, replacing Lou Williams, Elton Brand, and Jodie Meeks with Nick Young, Kwame Brown, Dorrell Wright, and Royal Ivey is a downgrade.

Extending Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen is fine.  Their draft picks are forgettable.

2nd best offseason?

If you look at the Power Rankings of NBA's John Schuhmann and David Aldridge they're confusing.

Unfair as it is, Heat add Allen in smartest move of summer
This is such garbage. I get that reporters such as Alridge are obsessed with Miami and whatever they do, but Ray Allen doesn't make them that much better. That is such a myth by some in the media. The Heat better before Allen and would better if they didn't have.

How can Power Rankings have merit when a game hasn't been played yet? I look at last season's playoff run and off-season free agency, some teams got worse others got better.

No. 1 -- MIAMI HEAT

2011-12 RECORD: 46-20, first place, Southeast Division; won NBA championship.

ADDED: G Ray Allen (three years, $9 million), F Rashard Lewis (two years, $2.8 million), C Justin Hamilton (acquired from Philadelphia).

LOST: C Ronny Turiaf (signed with Clippers).

Miami will be the definite fav going into next season, but they did get older by adding Allen and Lewis. You'll never hear the age factor regarding the Heat, just saying.

The Sixers didn't get any better by adding G Nick Young (one year, $6 million) F Dorell Wright (acquired from Golden State); G Royal Ivey (one year, $1.23 million); F Maurice Harkless (first-round pick, 15th overall; F Arnett Moultrie (acquired from Miami); C Kwame Brown (two years, $6 million), G Maalik Wayns. Really?

I think the Mavs got a little better not sure about their ranking.

I think the Nets got better, but I'm not buying the hype on them. Not with Brook Lopez as the starting center.

I'll buy the Clippers getting better, but with Jordan as the starting center, not sure how much they'll improve.
ADDED: F Lamar Odom (trade with Dallas); G Jamal Crawford (four years, $21 million); F Grant Hill (two years, $3.8 million); G Willie Green (acquired from Atlanta); F/C Ronny Turiaf (one year, $1.15 million); C Ryan Hollins (one year, $1.14 million).

LOST: F Reggie Evans (traded to Nets); G Nick Young (signed with Philadelphia); F Ryan Gomes (amnestied); G Mo Williams (traded to Utah); G Randy Foye (signed by Utah).

The Lakers got much older by adding Nash and Jamison. I don't know why Artest is still starting for LAL?

Words can't explain how much better the Celtics bench got. They added youth and veterans will actual skill and talent to hopefully help out the starters. It's matter of the Celtics being consistent and staying healthy for the long run. With this core of players the C's better make a deep run if not their season will likely be a bust. Health is always a factor with the Celts.
ADDED: G Jason Terry (three years, $15.6 million); G Courtney Lee (sign-and-trade from Houston, four years, $21.5 million); F/C Jared Sullinger (first round, 21st pick overall); C Fab Melo (first round, 22nd pick overall); F Kris Joseph (second round, 51st pick overall); C Jason Collins (one year, $1.35 million).

LOST: G Ray Allen (signed with Miami); C Ryan Hollins (signed with Clippers); F JaJuan Johnson (traded to Houston); G E'Twaun Moore (traded to Houston); F Sean Williams (traded to Houston); C Greg Stiemsma (signed with Minnesota); G Sasha Pavlovic (traded to Portland).

RETAINED: F Kevin Garnett (three years, $34 million); F Brandon Bass (three years, $20 million); F Jeff Green (four years, $36 million); F/C Chris Wilcox (one year, $1.35 million); G Keyon Dooling (one year, $1.35 million).

The Rockets as top 10? Really, Aldridge! Pass...

The self-proclaimed #2 in the east. Didn't make any moves that will actual wow anyone. They lost key rotation guys like Collison, Jones, Barbosa, Price and Amundson. And overpaid for Hibbert and Hill. This team got worse and they look like an updated version of the ATL Hawks.
ADDED: G D.J. Augustin (one year, $3.5 million); F Gerald Green (three years, $10 million); C Ian Mahinmi (acquired from Dallas); F Miles Plumlee (first round, 26th pick overall); LOST: G Darren Collison (traded to Dallas); F Dahntay Jones (traded to Dallas); G A.J. Price (signed with Washington), team president Larry Bird.

RETAINED: C Roy Hibbert (matched four-year, $56 million offer sheet from Portland); G George Hill (five years, $40 million).
