LeBron James and the United States men's basketball team plan on bringing home the gold.

But it was plans of a different kind that the NBA's regular season and Finals MVP made in London that briefly sent the Twitterverse ablaze: his dinner plans.

USA swimmer Lauren Perdue tweeted that LeBron had asked her to dinner.

Perdue (@LoPerdue) tweeted "Lebron James just invited me to dinner... Um wuuuutttt?!?" She also sent out an Instagram picture of her standing with a horn-rim clad James and the caption "Oh heyy Lebon."

Even crazier? She turned him down, citing curfew for athletes in the Olympic Village. The tweet has since been deleted.

Now, before the rumors fly about the recently-engaged James and Perdue, the 21-year-old Olympian cleared up the situation for the Charlotte Observer.

"He was kind of joking but he was basically like, 'Would you like to come eat with me at the dining hall?' And I said, 'Um, I'm sorry, I have a curfew. So I turned that one down, yeah," Perdue said.

The report also says the University of Virginia swimmer added "LeBron was 'gracious' and and certainly didn't imply that he was asking her to anything other than a meal at the Olympic Village dining hall."

This is old news and as much as I hate the guy it's the media trying to make him look bad. It's kind of pathetic that she aired him out like that. Knowing that he's engaged and has kids why put it on twitter? Seems kind of desperate on her part to get attention from this.

She covered him. She's done nothing wrong, but you're right it's the media using a misleading headline.
She said he was a gentleman and was joking.
She thought it was a highlight of her life to meet Lebron and hang out so she posted it jokingly on Twitter.

Lebron's done nothing wrong. Kobe was macking on that Australian babe swimmer, and I'm surprised the media didn't take him to town either.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

I don't know why not let the world know he is a dog.   If he is engaged then he has no business asking her out.  As for the attention part I can't say but I do not condone him asking out peeps when in a relationship.   Maybe it's a generation thing I am in my mid 40s and been married 22 years to the same person but I think he is culprit.

Was it a date?  I thought he asked her to dinner at the dining hall?  Does that automatically suggest he was trying to cheat on his fiancee'?

I've been married 10 years and I can only say that I would not have done it, but with that said, there is nothing to hang the guy out for publicly at this time.  Honestly, if his fiance is OK with it, then he did nothing wrong.  If she's not, then that is his mess to handle.  Frankly, that is her place to decide and not mine.

I think that this is just a consequence of him being one of the 'best' villains in sports media right now.

He asked if she wanted to eat together at the dining hall. Chick got all star struck and posted it on twitter. If athletes cant have a coed dining hall and eat with others without suspicion then there is something wrong.

let's not kid ourselves.. these are professional athletes we're talking about. i am sure lebron has more women coming at him than a sex and the city marathon.  this swimmer is the least of his fiancee's worries.

Lol guys, he was just joking.. Why should we even care?
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG

I really could care less what Lebron does in his personal life, but just playing it off as a joke is a joke.... I mean what's funny about it ? Will you eat with me ? baahaahaha thats such a funny joke .

He is a superstar athlete, do you think a majority of these guys are faithful to one woman ? We all know what Lebron wanted....

To be fair, the Olympic Village is NOTORIOUS for being a giant sex party throughout the Olympics. It got so bad, they tried to crack down on it in the 80s (IIRC in Barcelona they had a problem with the athletes having sex on the roof and people taking pictures!!), and in the early 90s had to start distributing free condoms to all the athletes because they were terrified that there would be an AIDS epidemic in the Olympics. Hell, just at Vancouver, the Olympic Village went through 100,000 condoms (since there are roughly 6500 athletes, that's about 15 condoms per person) about halfway through the Olympics, and the IOC had to ship several thousand more.

So while this thing with Lebron is being blown out of proportion, the sex antics/affairs of Olympic athletes are pretty well known, if it isn't talked about much.

No one knows.   But would you ask someone out to dinner if you were married and it had no business options?   I know I would not.  It is one thing to eat out with a coworker during lunch but dinner to me is something different.

I don't know he was trying to cheat but you don't know he wasn't trying to cheat either.

Do we know he even asked her out to dinner? From what it sounds like, he probably said something more along the lines of, "Oh, hey, it's dinner time. I'm headed to the dining hall, want to come?"

With some things in the media, it's all about perception.

And that is wrong.

Would I have done what LeBron did here (ask Lauren to dinner), being that I'm engaged?

Nope. Not at all. But that is just me.

The sad thing here is that I really believe that LeBron James meant absolutely NO HARM, here.

But perception is a killer.

To me, perception is NOT reality, most of the time. This mess is how rumors get started.

I kinda fault Lauren for posting this like she did. She seems nice, but she HAS to know what kind of spin this would have.
