Here's the full list
1. Brook Lopez - Nets - 4 years at $15 million/year
2. Jeff Green - Celtics - 4 years at $9 million/year
3. Michael Beasley - Suns - 3 years at $6 million/year
4. Nick Young - 76ers - 1 year at $6 million
5. O.J. Mayo - Mavericks - 2 years at $4 million/year
6. Chris Kaman - Mavericks - 1 year at $8 million
7. Jamal Crawford - Clippers - 4 years at $6.5 million/year
8. Kirk Hinrich - Bulls - 2 years at $3 million/year
9. Raymond Felton - Knicks - 3 years + a player option at $3.3 million/year
10. Marco Belinelli - Bulls - 1 year at $2 million
Belinelli and Hinrich are included less for their respective contracts than for the opportunity costs. Wins Produced far prefers two players the team let walk, Asik and Ronnie Brewer. Similarly Wins Produced favors Lin for more money over Felton for less.
The wierd thing is, I would have put Mayo, Kaman, Hinrich, Felton, and Belinelli all in my top 10 of BEST contracts of the summer.
Mayo is still very young, and has been very productive at times in his career. To get him for less than the MLE is a big win, and could pay off huge...particularly on a team like the Mavs, who needed scoring in their backcourt, and have a solid veteran base to help show him the way (even if they will also be teaching him to hit on college girls in German).
Kaman is a steal at basically the same contract Kwame Brown got last year. You don't get quality centers on 1 year deals for bargains like that.
Hinrich is a MLE level player, and a great bargain.
Felton was a classic buy low player, who was miserable in his situation and never got in shape for the short season, but will now be motivated and where he wants to be. He will likely outplay PGs who are making twice as much.
And Belinelli, well, he is just a binky of mine, and I am convinced one of these days he is going to break out. So, getting him for just a bit more than the minimum is a great deal in my book.
So, I can understand the thought that Green's contract was not good (although I would say it is more of a high risk, high reward, than a straight bad contract), but I have to imagine the person who made this original list is a hack.
